If they were looking to make their prom memorable they sure did a good job of it. I wanted to dance along with them.

Music and dance have changed a lot over the years. From the ’50s and ’60s until today, it’s fun to look back on what dancing used to look like.

One group of friends in Germany took this even further by creating an 8-minute dance that shows off the evolution of dance over the last 7 decades.

They even performed it at their prom and posted it on YouTube, so we all get to see this incredibly entertaining feat.

It starts with “Stand By Me” and the twist.

It ends with “Gangnam Style”.

Did you realize dancing had changed so much over the years?

The more recent dances are much more explosive and tend to have more booty-shaking, but dancing has always been a great way for people to express themselves and let off steam.

This dance takes us on a journey through the years with the songs and the boys change their dance moves every few seconds.

It gives us a huge survey of what popular culture has looked like over time, and it’s a really interesting way of honoring the history of music and dance.

They choreographed it themselves.

The whole video showcases some pretty interesting dance moves. It’s impressive that they did this choreography themselves because the movements get pretty intense.

At one point, there’s a “Dirty Dancing” style lift that turns into a flip over one guy’s head.

This performance is a riff off the famous viral video “Evolution of Dance”.

They did it beautifully.

Way back in 2006, one of the first viral videos was this one by Judson Laipply that showed him doing a dance that evolved musical genres and dance moves through time.

It’s served as an inspiration for many videos that explore how dancing has evolved over time. That original video had only one person in it and didn’t require the coordination of four different people.

Their peers ended up loving it.

Nobody is at their prom was prepared for what was going to happen when this group of friends got on stage.

You can hear at the beginning of the video, there’s a lot of silence and people don’t really know how to respond.

After the first couple of song and dance changes, however, people start to get into the idea. By the time the Bee Gees are playing, people are clapping along and cheering for these boys.

It’s not just the prom crowd that loved this video.

Their video has over 4 million views.

People from all over the world have commented and mentioned how delightful they find this video. One person wrote:

“Great job guys. It looks like great fun and you clearly know what you’re doing. Since I can’t dance to save my life I’ll sit back and admire instead. :)”

Some people are appreciating that this helps them relive their youth:

“Hope you understand that you took some old bird down memory lane …… thanks for the great choices and dancing ……… You guys did so great. Hi from South Africa.”

Honestly, this video has creativity and talent.

It takes a lot of brainstorming and bright ideas to even get the idea to do this and to envision the choreography and music.

But on top of thinking this through and executing the plan, this group of friends also managed to stay in sync and show off some sweet dance moves.
