Back in 1983, the world was introduced to Michael Jackson’s unforgettable “Thriller” video.
It was one you’d want to watch again and again for many reasons – from its creepy storyline to the iconic zombie dance.
But let’s face it, VCRs were still an expensive item, so not everyone had the luxury of recording the “Thriller” video so they could learn the dance routine in their living room.
Fast forward to several decades later, and people young and old still want to learn the “Thriller” dance (and love watching it too).
One dance teacher from Southfield, Michigan took on the challenge of teaching her students the legendary “Thriller” routine.
She teaches dance to kids between kindergarten and eighth grade, and is quite amazing at her craft.
Under the guidance of Hawkins, a group of spirited students took on the challenge of recreating the fun zombie moves.
As they began their performance, the school’s hallway transformed into a stage.
With every step and turn, they channeled the essence of the legendary video, leaving their peers watching from the sidelines in sheer amazement.
It wasn’t just about mimicking the steps; these students embodied the spirit of the dance.
As they moved through the corridor, they flawlessly executed the moves, capturing the attention and admiration of every onlooker.
The hallway echoed with the rhythm of their “zombie” feet and the energy of a performance that would surely be remembered by all who witnessed it.
“Thriller” is a timeless song and video that are especially perfect around Halloween time.
The choreographic genius of Jackson, coupled with the late Micheal Peters, remains second to none.
Even after several decades, when these young talents perform the moves, they seem as fresh and vibrant as ever.
The evident commitment and skill of their instructor only amplify the magic.
Dance, especially iconic ones like the “Thriller” routine, has a unique way of connecting generations.
Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” wasn’t just a song; it was a cultural phenomenon.
The dance moves, the storyline, and the music combined to create something that would go down in history.
Unsurprisingly, the internet fell in love with Hawkins and her students’ outstanding performance.
One person commented:
“Fantastic! Great job by teacher and students alike! Great memories for everyone involved. This will stick with them forever.”
Another said:
“This has to be the most iconic dance routine in the history of the world. Awesome teacher keeping the youngins in tune with our great art from the past.”
Beyond the nostalgia and the fun, dance has numerous health and mental benefits.
It’s a form of exercise that boosts physical health, improves mood, reduces stress, and increases cognitive abilities.
When people dance, they not only move their bodies but also release pent-up emotions, making it a therapeutic activity.
Bravo Ms. Hawkins and students, as it’s a performance that’s spreading smiles and good memories.
