Choir Teacher Steps Out And Boys Hilariously Take Over
I love how “seriously” they take this. :)

Adam, Tyler, and Noah were once members of the Freshman 5. But the three are what now remains of the Sexy Sophomores, a group of high school boys who perform covers of popular songs for YouTube.

They came up with the latter name – and it stuck – just to annoy their choir teacher.

They actually have quite a few viral videos from their days as a larger group. And even though they’re seniors, it looks like college prep hasn’t stunted their ability to upload videos.

Their fame began in June of 2019 when they posted their most popular video – “When the choir teacher’s gone…”

That 1-minute-and-44-second video now has well over 11 million views!

But in a Q&A video, the boys confirmed their teacher doesn’t leave them alone all that often, despite the fact that there’s a Part 2 and Part 3 to the video.

So why are they so popular?

They’re funny and talented, but plenty of videos don’t see that many views no matter how good they are.

And the viral video itself is simply 7 high school students performing an instrumental tune mostly on percussion (with one on the keyboard). No tricks, no surprises, just 7 deadpan high school guys jamming while their choir teacher stepped out for a moment.

And the song in question? The Wii theme song.

Needless to say, they turned what is probably the least compelling piece of music into something millions of people are delighting over.

Now that’s talent!

A little over halfway through we see the only action – 2 more students join in for “Heart and Soul.”

“Watching this and thinking “why on earth are 11 million people watching this?” Then realizing I’m one of them…,” said one commenter of their inexplicable popularity.

The only other real commentary on the video is just how much more fun the kid in the green shirt seems to be having than the rest of the boys.

“Everyone else has these blank, empty stares and the dude in the green shirt is just vibing. Adorable,” remarked a viewer.

But it’s precisely the mundane that makes them so amusing.

Take, for example, a vocal performance from the same month. The guys have the crowd in stitches with their rendition of…the alphabet.

Not exactly the vocal stylings one might expect, but it’s more about humor for these gentlemen.

The Sexy Sophomores are the perfect example of a YouTube phenomenon that most people just don’t get but the ones who do find it a total classic. It could be generational but has a lot to do with your sense of humor as well.

And if you do find it funny, you’ll be pleased to know their most popular Instagram post is a short clip of the video with the mere promise of outtakes from their Wii performance.

Like so many things on the Internet, you don’t have to understand it for it to be popular. In fact, we’re not sure there is a way to understand it. It is what it is.

Now that the young men are seniors, we imagine it’s time to change their name. But in their Q&A they said there merely “dabbling with” the idea.
