When you only have one life to live, you need to do it right. You need to take opportunities when they are presented to you.
Talia Dean works as a V.I.P. concierge at Heathrow airport. She spends her working days carrying celebrity’s bags and being treated poorly by big egos. She’s tired of it. She’s spent her whole life wondering if she should or could follow her dreams of being a musician.
One day at work, Sharon Osbourne came through and told her that she should go for it and audition for X Factor.
Thinking of her little boy and how to make the best life for him and how to set the best example for him, she bit the bullet and signed up for the audition.
In her early thirties, most people would still consider her to be pretty young. However, in the music world, that’s already turning the corner to over the hill. This is truly her chance to make a change in her life and to follow her dreams.
When she steps into the audition room, she’s eager to impress, but she’s also wondering if Sharon recognizes her from the airport.
All four of the judges are touched by her story and her circumstances, and they are rooting for her to give an amazing audition. None of the judges ever want to tell someone that they’re not good enough, but sometimes it’s just the truth.
Will they have to say this to Talia?
When she starts to sing, the judges are all immediately transfixed. They weren’t quite sure what to expect from this airport worker and mother, but the sound that comes out of her mouth is so big! It absolutely fills the room with sound you can’t ignore.
This song, “I Put A Spell On You,” isn’t one that you can scrape by on. As a classic, you really have to give it justice when singing it. You have to give it everything you’ve got!
Talia does just that. She leaves nothing behind on that stage, and even the moments of the song where she’s not singing are totally transfixing because you’re eagerly waiting to hear what she’ll do with the next note.
When the song is finished, a huge smile comes across her face. You can see that this is the very moment she’s been waiting so long to have. She put her heart and her soul out there for the world to see and it went stunningly!
Can you imagine the thoughts that are racing through her mind at this very moment? She’s probably imagining a life where she no longer has to work at the airport carrying other people’s bags around. Maybe someone else will carry her bags around for once!
While the performance isn’t perfect – and Simon admits that – it’s the passion and the flavor that really stuns the judges.
With four yesses from the judges, Talia’s dreams are coming true!
