Swing dance has long been popular and has seen hundreds of sub-styles emerge under its umbrella. It’s essentially a jazz style dance, but in modern incarnations you can see all manner of genre mashing. You can see singles or couples dancing to rock, pop, even hip hop in competitions and performances all over the world. Every once in a while though, you can find a performance that just leaves your jaw on the floor.
Melissa Rutz and Michael Kielbasa take to the stage in this amazing routine.
The routine is set to Queen’s “Another One Bites the Dust”, now that’s a fun song to swing to! Their moves are truly impressive and their performance dynamic. They know how to lean into the performance as they take to the stage throwing up the “rock horns”, promising a unique swing experience.
When Michael flicks his legs out behind him before swinging back and slapping the ground the audience goes wild!
This is just a taste of things to come in their routine, as they continue to step up their game with every move.
Firstly, the fancy footwork is flaunted fantastically.
They jitterbug around like it ain’t no thing, seemingly weightless as they use their fancy footwork to wow the crowd. They must be seriously fit to be able to keep up this level of movement without collapsing after two seconds of this type of exercise (that would be me for sure).
They get their spin on!
Not only does Melissa get spun around a few times, but so does Michael. Impressive since he’s got to be about a foot taller than her! No matter who does the spinning and who’s getting spun, it’s a masterclass in having fun and making it look easy.
Not to mention the dips.
These guys have more dips than a chip convention! Wait I’ve got another one: I thought the big dipper was a constellation, but it’s actually just Michael Kielbasa! Ok I’ll stop now. But they do have incredible dipping skills and it’s just another thing that adds to this duo’s killer dance repertoire.
Wait, ok one more: I thought Salsa dance would have more dips than Swing music! Ok I promise I’m done now.
Again, with the fancy moves!
This couple is not content just jiving out on two feet (four altogether)! No, they’ve got skills on the ground too! Hope someone swept the floor before they go sliding around down there!
Not to mention, they know how to strike a pose
Several times throughout their performance these two magnificent dancers no how to stop and strike that pose. They could end up on the cover of Vogue looking like that! Well, maybe Melissa could, Michael I think is more focused on the moving part…
And at the conclusion of their performance they of course get a standing ovation. Their adoring crowd aren’t the only ones who appreciate this couple’s toe tappin’ triumph. I challenge you to watch this without even twiddling a toe. Good luck.
