How many people actually enjoy being in an airport?
For most of us, stepping anywhere near an airport is bound to cause some stress. If you’re actually flying, there’s the pressure to get there early enough, get through security, get through customs and finally make it to the flight on time. Even if you’re not flying, there’s the stress of leaving the house early enough, coping with airport traffic, finding the right terminal and so much more.
Though it goes without saying, airports are not typically considered to be a very joyful place.
Fortunately, human beings are endlessly creative—and some people in Stockholm, Sweden decided to brighten up the airport experience.
As the clip begins, it looks like any other basic day in the airport: people running around, looking for flights and so on. After a few moments, though, music starts playing over the airport speakers and some of the people walking around start to look up.
Before long, a man on the staircase starts singing to all the passersby. His voice is beautiful, and before long, he’s joined by a female counterpart.
By this point, everyone standing around has pulled out their phones and is filming the scene.
After a few moments, it’s clear that the performers are singing “I Believe I Can Fly” by R. Kelly.
Before long, the two solitary singers make their way down the stairs and are joined by an entire crowd in the middle of the open area of the airport. As the song continues to swell, more and more singers emerge from different rooms in the airport. As their numbers increase, their voices blend together and soar higher and higher. As it turns out, it’s only fitting that a song about soaring through the air would take place at an airport!
As the song continues, more and more people gather around the group of singers.
Next up, the song hits its key change and all the singers start swaying back and forth.
By the end, everyone’s voices have really hit their stride and everyone is doing some pre-planned choreography as well. Although everyone in the airport still has to go about their business, this performance definitely stopped people in their tracks for a few minutes! As the singers do the final solo in the song, the music finally winds down and everyone takes a bow.
When it’s all over, everyone who gathered around them gives the group a round of applause!
After the song is over, everybody disappears as if nothing had happened at all!
As it turns out, the performance was actually organized by the Stockholm Airport as a promotional video—but what a great promotion it was! Aside from the obvious connection to flying, this video is a nice reminder to take a breath and to not get too stressed out in life (or in the airport). If we have faith in ourselves and keep our heads up, we’re likely to end up getting where we need to go.
Thanks to all the singers for such a great performance! Check out the full clip below:
