Surprise! America’s Got Talent is back and it is actually better than ever before.

All of the beloved champions we’ve seen in seasons past are returning to the stage to compete on a new version of the show – America’s Got Talent: The Champions.

In the first episode of the season, fans of AGT were surprised to see Susan Boyle take the stage.

Susan first gained fame when she appeared on Britan’s Got Talent 10 years ago in 2009. For her initial audition, she sang “I Dreamed a Dream” from Les Misérables.

When she first auditioned for AGT, people in the audience actually laughed when she told the judges that she was a singer. Show creator and judge Simon Cowell looked pretty skeptical as well.

However, Susan blew everyone away with her voice and proved just how talented she really was. Sadly, she didn’t win the competition that season, but she did come in second place!

After her time on Britan’s Got Talent, Susan went on to release her debut album, I Dreamed a Dream in November 2009. It became one of the UK’s best selling album of all time. It also set a record for biggest first-week sales by a debut album.

She returned to Britan’s Got Talent in 2012 to perform as a guest in the final, where she sang “You’ll See.” She also sang at Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee Pageant, singing “Mull of Kintyre.”

In her pre-taped interview for America’s Got Talent: The Champions, Susan talked about how much Britan’s Got Talent changed her life. Before the show, people thought she was ordinary and nothing special.

She feels like she has something to prove on this season and went on to say:

“I’m excited to show Simon how much I’ve grown since the last time. I’m really looking forward to seeing him. This time, I have something to prove. I’d love to win.”

As soon as Susan walked out onto the stage, Simon’s face lit up. He joked with her, asking what her name was, before telling her how happy he was to see her.

For her first performance of this season, Susan chose to sing a song she’s since made popular during her career, “Wild Horses.”

When she was done singing, the audience and all four judges were on their feet cheering for her and clapping. After everyone settled down, the judges let Susan know what they thought of her performance.

Simon started off by saying:

“You know what Susan? I can’t think of any other contestant who has defined this show better than you. I’m being honest with you, you’re the one. You’ve made a huge difference in a lot of people’s lives and I’m absolutely thrilled that you’re here.”

Howie Mandel went on to praise her and say that over the course of America’s Got Talent, they’ve always said to contestants that they “want that Susan Boyle moment” because she is the gold standard.

Mel B told Susan that she wanted to give her the moment that she really deserved and then went on to slam that Golden Buzzer! Every Got Talent lover knows that earning a Golden Buzzer means the contestant will instantly get sent to the quarterfinals, and who could have expected anything less for Susan Boyle?

As the gold confetti fell on the stage, both Simon and Mel B rushed up to give Susan a hug and congratulate her on her success.
