Even though it’s a relatively new phenomenon in the world, the internet has changed our lives drastically.
In older times, many basic things we take for granted were a lot more difficult. If you fell out of touch with a friend, you would remain out of touch with them your whole life unless you made a concerted effort to find them again.
In a less serious way, it has also transformed the way we absorb entertainment. While television and movies used to be the main cultural vein, so many of us get our kicks off of YouTube now.
And as we’ve used the internet more and more, it has begun to spawn its own trends in the process.
One of the most popular (and versatile) trends that YouTube has given birth to is the flash mob.
For anyone who doesn’t know, a flash mob is a kind of public performance that’s planned in advance but is meant to seem spontaneous.
Generally speaking, these kinds of events are used to surprise people and loved ones or to raise awareness for a company or cause. In any case, the resulting video almost inevitably becomes a viral smash when it’s posted online.
And this one is no exception!
The clip we’re talking about was originally uploaded in June 2014.
As it begins, the camera films a public square where a couple sits at a small picnic table. A moment later, some bells start chiming and a businessman walks into the middle of the plaza and freezes, looking at his watch.
A moment later, another man walks in and poses… and a third! Strangely enough, nobody is moving. Before long, a crowd starts to gather around them.
After that, a woman runs in the center and starts doing some ballet moves.
Before long, she “brings the dancers to life” by touching them—and the music starts playing!
After that, all of them are running back and forth and performing some awesome choreography. A moment later, many more people run in the middle and start doing their parts as well.
After that, children run in as well and the whole crowd claps along. After that, two men run in and do some incredible backflips, making everyone burst into applause!
Still, the performance still has a few more tricks up its sleeve.
As it turns out, there’s one couple who has been in the middle of it all the whole time.
And within a second, the man gets up on his feet much to his date’s surprise! Before long, she’s pulled into the crowd as well as a red carpet gets rolled out and flowers are thrown on it.
When it’s all over, he gives his girlfriend a bouquet of flowers as everyone around them watches. A moment later, he professes his love for her—and he brings out a small box. Finally, she says that she’ll marry him—and the crowd bursts into applause once again. By the end of it, she has tears in her eyes.
In all, the flash mob was a big success!
Since the video was posted, it has earned nearly 24 million views.
Although there have been some great flash mob videos over the years, few are as impressive and well-thought-out as this one was!
The dancing itself was impressive, but the way they surprised the bride-to-be at the end made it so special. Needless to say, this is one you have to watch again and again.
