It’s hard to keep up with all the versions of Britney Spears’ hit song “Toxic.”

Spears recorded the song for her fourth studio album In the Zone in 2003. It turned out that a lot of talented musicians from all genres loved it, and the song is widely credited for changing the face of pop in the 2000s.

The Surfrajettes are four talented musicians from Ontario, Canada who caught widespread attention after releasing a homemade video of Britney’s “Toxic.”

Filmed in a living room, the video has a unique and almost hypnotic vibe that will keep your eyes and ears glued to the screen. They were signed to the Hi-Tide Recordings in 2018 upon releasing a self-titled debut EP.

These girls have already toured across the United States, bringing their original sound along with them.

The Surfrajettes guitarist said that their group puts their own twist on surf music, but they’re not as strict as some other bands are. That’s what we most loved about the rendition—it’s relaxed and very catchy.

These girls had us as soon as we saw the first couple of seconds of the video.

Wearing gold dresses and knee-high white boots, these girls revive the spirit of another time and stir up the music we thought we knew. It’s clear that all four of these women have amazing playing skills, and there’s plenty of talent and innovation in every bit of their performance.

The Surfrajettes made a version that sounds like a Tarantino movie soundtrack.

These young Canadians are talented, and there’s no doubt about that.

This version of the song has a truly authentic surf sound, but we were eager to hear some vocals to go along with it. Unfortunately, this version of it is only an instrumental! It is funny when you think about the awesome combination of it all: the band name is from 1919, their outfits and instruments are from the 1960s, and the song is from the early 2000s. It proves that skilled musicians can mix and match their influences across many decades if they do it creatively and wisely. You’ve got to love their amplifiers and the speaker with the lovely tremolo effect. It seems to us that these girls put everything they have to good use.

As this cover shows, surf rock is definitely underappreciated!

Even though they’re experts at playing this music, the ladies seem too young to have been born during the beginning of surf rock.

We’re curious how they discovered a love for surf music in the first place—and we’re guessing there’s probably a lot of people who share our opinion hidden among the commenters. Since this clip was posted, it has earned more than four million views on YouTube. It was released in 2018, and continue to perform well online! The band confirmed that they’re thinking about adding some vocals to their songs since they all “have decent voices,” which we’re definitely looking forward to. Whatever the case, we wish them the best of luck in the future!
