Grace Vardell, better known as Daisy Gray, is a talented musician with a stunning voice.
To prove our point, we suggest you take a look at Gray’s 2015 piano cover of Chris Isaak’s “Wicked Game.” It’s certainly an amazing, haunting piece of art that sounds like something you’d get if you combined Lana Del Rey and Celine Dion. People often say, and for good reason, that a cover can’t hold a candle to the original. Fortunately, this is an exception!
Daisy Gray began performing when she was only 14, and she has gone by several stage names over the years.
Most of Gray’s fans first got to know her as Grace Vardell.
At 14 years old, this young Cali-native began posting on YouTube. Her cover of a Lana Del Rey song received a lot of attention, garnering millions of views in just a couple of months. A year later in 2015, young Grace switched the name to Daisy Gray and uploaded a rendition of one of the most famous love songs of all time.
“Wicked Game” was Daisy’s big success, and the video is at six million YouTube views and counting.
Today she is a 20-year-old musician and Wilhelmina-signed model, and she’s taking the first steps towards a serious musical career. Gray’s debut single “Saviour” was well-received by her fans, and 197,000 subscribers had nothing but compliments for her.
The emerging songstress has recently shared the newest 2-song EP About You/Rumors, which you can check out here.
How does Daisy describe her music? “My songs are about going through things and coming out the other side, you know and hopefully a little better and with a little more wisdom.”
“I wouldn’t want my head to be blown up by different stuff. I wouldn’t want the money to affect the way I treat other people.”
In talks of fame and success, Gray gave the genuine response above, and we admire her mature way of thinking. The music makes Daisy happy, and it’s her way to make a connection with her audience.
“That’s why I began posting on YouTube in the first place,” says Gray.
You’ll keep coming back to hear Daisy’s breathtaking take on the beloved classic. It could easily go as one of the best covers of “Wicked Game” ever. We had a hard time believing that Gray was only 15 when she recorded this. You can see her in a dark room, sitting at the piano and singing her heart out.
Her powerful vocals will blow you away—she nails every contour of the song perfectly.
Chris Isaac should feel proud that a three-decades-old song got revived in such a contemporary way!
Interestingly, although it was released in 1989, “Wicked Game” didn’t become a hit until it was featured in the 1990 David Lynch’s film Wild at Heart.
We’re sure of one thing, though: even if the song wasn’t a hit, Daisy Gray makes it one.
The depth and intense feelings that come through Gray’s music are incredible.
Just wait until the end—her vocals will amaze you. The way she sings it is wonderful, and we were left speechless. The piano suits her well and lets her voice shine through. Daisy Gray has got an amazing gift: a voice that gives goosebumps!
Her singing is striking from the first note on, and it only gets better as it goes on.
You wish that the video was a bit longer! Good luck Daisy, and thank you for creating music from the heart.
