Ever since the advent of the internet, flash mobs have gotten more and more popular.
For anyone who doesnโt know what that is (or who hasnโt already come across one of these videos), a flash mob is where a group of people organizes a spontaneous public performance, typically for display or sharing on the internet somewhere.
Although the point of these flash mobs is often just to provide a little fun or joy for anybody, sometimes theyโre also to celebrate or honor someone special.
At least, that was the case for this flash mob in Brentwood, California.
The video was posted online in 2016.
As the clip begins, the filmmakers explain that theyโre from a group called Dude, Be Nice and are at Heritage High School in Brentwood to surprise someone.
As they explain, all the children of the school want to do a special salute to the schoolโs resident police officer, Officer Mitch. Everyone says that although he may seem a little bit intimidating on the surface, Mitch is one of the sweetest and most supportive people at the schoolโand heโs always there for the kids.
And the best part of all is that he had no idea the surprise was coming.
First of all, they devised a plan to get Officer Mitch to the office under the false pretenses.
He was supposed to come down to see a negative video of a student that was exposed on social media and weigh in on it.
As soon as he sits down to watch the video, itโs clear that the whole thing was a ruse and that the video is actually a thank you video! Still, the surprise isnโt over yet. After that, he walks outside and gets greeted by the whole student body.
Everyone is gathered outside and makes a path for him to walk downโand then the dancing begins.
For the next part of the surprise, everybody does a choreographed dance to one of Officer Mitchโs favorite songs!
Needless to say, heโs completely overcome by emotionโฆ but the surprise still isnโt over!
After that, the kids explain on the microphone that theyโre all proud of him for making the school and the world a better place, and that theyโve come together to get him some tickets to the Miami Heat (one of his favorite teams). As if that werenโt enough, they also got him a signed Dan Marino jersey as well!
Throughout the entire surprise, Officer Mitch has the biggest smile on his face.
Although this clearly took a lot of planning, the look on Officer Mitchโs face the entire time makes it so worth it!
To date, the video has gotten some 13 million views on YouTube and itโs easy to see why. Although there are plenty of people in our lives who make a difference and help others out, itโs not everyday that they get thanked or recognized for their efforts in a substantial way.
In this video, all the kids at the school pulled out all the stops to make sure that somebody they cared about knew he was appreciated in a deep deep way.
