Most people can think back on their high school careers and pick out at least one teacher who made a difference.

Even the most boring of subjects can come to life and be interesting with a really good teacher.

One school in Malaysia was having trouble getting its students to pay proper attention and care to their physics lessons, so they decided to think outside of the box.

The school knew their “Physics of Sound” class was not interesting to the students, people sometimes even fell asleep.

To combat this and get the students more interested in the coursework, they hired a master of sound.

Shawn Lee is Asia’s number one beatboxer, his skills have brought him all over the world, but he probably never thought he’d end up back in the classroom.

This time though, Shawn was the teacher, not the student.

He knew he wanted to catch the students off guard, so he went to the school in his nerdiest outfit and broke out a pair of fake glasses to complete the look.

Upon entering the classroom, Shawn stumbled over a chair and some of the students were seen snickering, preparing to zone out.

For 10 minutes he read from the page in front of him, showing no personality to the class at all.

After 10 minutes though, when the students were barely paying attention, he knew it was time for his performance.

“Guys,” he said, “I think this is not working out, you are not learning anything, so why don’t I explain it to you in a drum form.”

With that, he stepped out from behind the podium and fixed his grip on his microphone.

He started with the bass drum, the lowest sound a drum kit produces, and he replicated the sound.

Upon hearing that, some students looked up, surprised at the sound that had just come out of this meek little man’s mouth.

Next, he moved onto the snare drum and again he replicated that.

Then, he mimicked the hi-hats, one of the types of cymbals.

Next, he asked the students if they wanted to hear all the sounds together.

Every student was paying attention now, shocked at what their teacher was doing.

Shawn started slowly, he included just the 3 sounds that he had demonstrated.

Even with just that, the whole crowd got into it; people were clapping along and dancing to the beat.

Eventually, Shawn showed the students all his talent and performed the famous beatboxing riff, “But first, let me take a selfie.”.

The students loved it and went wild at the end of the performance, one of the students even pretended to bow down to the beatboxing master.

When he was done, the school principal came in and explained to the students that everything Shawn had just done was possible through the ‘Physics of Sound’.

It may not have been the lesson the students expected, but it surely got them more interested in the material.
