Initial introductions had Storm telling the judges that “Storm Large” is really her name and that she’s 51, impressing the four judges with her healthy, glowing vibe. She’s no stranger to Portland audiences either.

Simon must have recognized her as he asked,

“Have we met before?”

To which Large jokingly responded,

“We were so young, Simon.”

And if you’re scratching your head now thinking if you’ve seen her before, Storm attracted national attention as a contestant on the CBS reality television show Rock Star: Supernova.

You’ve never heard this pop standard done with such attitude.

We’re all used to Sinatra’s crooning, Michael Buble’s red wine-like singing, and many others but Storm strips the song of all that formal energy, instead charging it with a bit of angst and anger.

Even the comments section went wild for Storm,

“Was a fan since her Rock Star: Supernova days.. God, she ages like fine wine.”

Says Cathy Tucop, while Nicole went,

“Portland, Oregon represent! Those of us here in Portland know Storm very well. She’s been a Portland staple for decades and she never stopped performing. She sells out all her shows practically instantaneously. She is an absolute treasure of a talent and character. I’m so glad she went for it and now the whole world can enjoy what we’ve known for ages. Way to go, Storm!”

Storm’s just started and already the audience is applauding her. And why not with a vocal range like hers!

The song builds with Large starting slow, deep and slow, then she increases the tempo slowly but surely, adding layers of her personality along with the power behind her voice.

Terry likes it!

Storm’s experience paid off. Her persona took over that stage, her energy radiating from all angles as she took her three minutes and made it a memorable one. AGT fans won’t forget the Storm that hit that day.

Simon Cowell had this to say,

“You have an amazing voice, an amazing personality, and amazing energy. Just to hear a naturally amazing voice like that…it was a really, really, really good audition.”
