Nerd Fest UK is a YouTube channel managed by four users who describe their content as “a festival of nerdiness”. While it’s something a lot of people may easily scroll past, it’s definitely a treat for some who delight in the old, new, and interesting.

Take the video they created of old movie stars dancing to Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars’ “Uptown Funk“.

It was a time hop unlike any other. See, most throwback content is pretty much created with the same flow: a series of video clips and photographs enhanced with sepia-toned or black and white filters, grain or dust effects, and iconic music from whichever decade the focus is on. While the usual format preserves the beauty and simplicity of the past, there’s no denying that a little improvement goes a long way.

Starting off with the 1932 movie “Red-Headed Woman”, an impeccably dressed female plays a vinyl record – and “Uptown Funk” begins to play.

The rhythmic claps in the catchy song’s intro, paired with clips of old movie stars whirling around and clapping themselves, was timed so perfectly that it seemed as the actors were originally dancing to the Bruno Mars track.

Keep your eyes glued to the screen if you want to see a smorgasbord of different dance types across the entire clip. You’ll also be able to catch a glimpse of the stars’ style evolution: from loose trousers, tap shoes, canes, top hats, and a-line skirts, to sailor dresses, tuxedos, socks, and loafers.

There were no special effects back then to enhance the performance of these Hollywood stars.

They really had raw, larger than life talent that, to this day, gives most artists a run for their money.

The entertaining mashup features the best of the best from The Golden Age in Hollywood. Epic scenes from classic favorites like “Take Me Out to the Ball Game”, “Small Town Girl”, and “The Sky’s the Limit” matched the song’s beat so seamlessly.

It comes as no surprise that the video earned over 50 million views.

You’ll also see bits of famous films like “Way Out West”, “Shall We Dance”, and “Panama Hattie”.

One can only imagine how much work went into piecing this genius mashup together. Putting together a lineup of solid, classic Hollywood films is already challenging enough as it is. Add to that the extremely difficult and time-consuming task of finding the best scenes to include, and making sure each movement fuses seamlessly with the upbeat track.

Apart from the creators’ sheer genius, what made the mashup work was the flexibility of the Bruno Mars track which had a hint of old school to it. We’re positive Bruno Mars himself can pull off some of these moves, too! This must-share mashup had users sounding off in the comments section about how incredibly talented actors from decades past were.

Classic meets modern in this incredible throwback clip. And as expected, the video ended as fantastically as it began, this time with an iconic scene from the 1940s film “Lady Be Good”.
