Bruce Springsteen and John Fogerty are both famous American singers, songwriters, and musicians—but they’re also very good friends.
For those who don’t know, Fogerty is Creedence Clearwater Revival’s frontman. Though Springsteen is a solo artist on some level, he’s also the leader of the E Street Band. Both of these artists released their first albums in 1973 and went on to become legends of music we love today.
Their performance at the 25th Anniversary Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Concert at Madison Square Garden in New York City was an awesome duet of “Fortunate Son.” If you’re a classic rock fan, this live version will leave you in awe!
John Fogerty wrote the “Fortunate Son” during the Vietnam War and it was released in 1969.
It’s among the best anti-war songs ever written and was added to the National Recording Registry by the Library of Congress for being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.” It’s no wonder that The Boss and Fogerty decided to perform it at the anniversary concert. In the beginning, Springsteen invites “one of the greatest singers and rock songwriters of all time” on stage.
Before long, the audience starts screaming in excitement as Fogerty appears with his guitar.
As soon as they start performing, the crowd roars and the song is just as good as expected. After all, both artists are musical legends!
Both singers put everything they have into each word they belt out.
The atmosphere is enchanting, the audience screams for more and the rest of the musicians on stage do an excellent job as well. Both Fogerty and Springsteen are skillful and have impressive vocal ranges. The outcome is impeccable, despite the pitch differences in their vocals.
Springsteen shows great respect to Fogerty, as he does not take the lead—instead, he follows John’s style.
Even though they’re both huge stars in their own right, their combined talents still produced an incredible show!
A performance like this requires a lot of skill, experience, enthusiasm, and love for music.
The most adorable thing about the show is the obvious chemistry between the two musicians, who mostly communicate without words. This great song flows smoothly through them and they don’t even have to try very hard—the excellence comes naturally. This live song version is sure to give viewers goosebumps the whole time, from the beginning until the end. They both sound great, and it’s so amazing that they sing as if they were 21 years old. We think it’s simply epic: two adult men having the time of their life, playing rock and roll and making the audience happy.
Since it was uploaded in 2009, this live masterpiece got seven million views!
Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band have a lot of plans for the 2020 tour, and tickets for Fogerty’s concerts in 2020 are also available. Although these two were perhaps more popular back in the day, they’re still very busy! We certainly enjoy seeing them out there on stage, and we hope that they’ll spare some time to share the stage again. Until then, may they enjoy the fruits of their labor and rock away as usual. We’re going to be watching this one again and again!
