Musicians often work together, but only sometimes does a masterpiece comes out of their collaboration.
Music history is full of such examples. Still, what if the musicians are strangers bonded only by their mutual passion for music? Below is the most charming video of a situation like that. It all happens at a Paris train station where there is a piano, two talented young men and a lot of love for good music.
They barely spoke a word to each other and yet they said it all using only black and white piano keys. The power of music is sometimes incredible.
The two men are Gerard Pla Daró and Nassim Zaouch.
As soon as the video begins, we see Gerard at the piano playing “Una Mattina” by Ludovico Einaudi.
He alternates between different positions on the piano and does it extremely well. People at the station are enchanted by the sound and they show a lot of interest. Gerard is very focused and you can see him transitioning into his own world where he enjoys his music completely. Another young man suddenly appears, he stands next to Gerard and for some time admires his skills without interfering.
When a spot opens up, he cuts in and they continue to play together without any other way of communicating. They barely look at each other the whole time! Nassim goes on to play “For The Love Of A Princess” from the movie Braveheart and the pieces blend perfectly.
Travelers gather around the piano to see the beautiful show unfolding in front of them.
Gerard and Nassim are unbelievably synchronized, just like that!
The music seems to be leading the way and they are simply following it. They hit their stride around the 4:30 mark, which is the middle of the video. At that point, the entire station seems to be listening to them. We get the feeling that everyone forgot about their traveling schedule or plans—that’s how enjoyable the whole performance is! Their connection is magical and only the train station announcements shortly interrupt their magic from time to time.
We were intrigued by this duet, and we found out that these two are from different countries, different cultures, and backgrounds.
Though they speak different languages, they meet at a train station and create this lovely piece of art. Gerard is from Spain and Nassim is from Algeria, but they became train station legends that afternoon. Isn’t music phenomenal? Once again, we’ve seen that it truly is the universal language.
Their big finale is the most adorable performance ending you’ll ever see.
When the play is over they just look at each other and smile. The audience gives them a big round of applause and they just shrug in a shy manner. Then there’s a high five between these two and one of them looks at his phone to see what time is it. The funny part is that he didn’t remember to check the time before, that’s how lost in the music he was!
Traveling through a crowded train station suddenly gets better with live music.
It was French train company SNCF who decided to put a portable piano in the station.
It all began in 2013 and the piano has moved from station to station since then. The project is known as a “Vous de jouer,” which means “it’s your turn to play.” For our part, this seems like a great idea—and the impressive number of 68 million views this video has earned seems to agree with us!
