Ice Skaters Captivate Room With Performance To “Sound Of Silence”

April 2nd, 2021

Figure skaters are unfair. It’s not enough that they’ve got incredible body control to glide on the ice, graceful motions that are mesmerizing to watch, but they look gorgeous too!

It’s a sport that everyone, regardless of preference, loves to watch. There’s just something about the smoothness, the epic leaps, and the good looking people that’s got people tuning in to these events.

Maxim Leonidovich Trankov and Tatiana Andreyеvna Volosozhar have the same effect on their viewers.

In figure skating, the skaters get to perform to different genres of music. It’s a form of expression for these amazing athletes as they are able to just unleash their bodies on the ice in a dance all their own.

It is not an easy sport. Years of sacrifice and training, hard falls and competitions have these skaters constantly on the look out for the next big event and their fellow skaters.

Imagine the body control, the coordination required to skate and dance while having to look like something out of a fairy tale.

Maxim and Tatiana are two-time 2014 Olympic champion in the pairs and in team events, the 2013 World champion, a four-time (2012, 2013, 2014, 2016) European champion, the 2012 Grand Prix Final champion, and a three-time (2011, 2013, 2016) Russian national champion.

These Russians have also won six events on the Grand Prix series.

With this ice cold dance of “The Sound of Silence“, it’s easy to see why. It’s the Gregorian version of the Simon and Garfunkel classic, and with a simple black and white look, this pair let their skating do the talking.

Trankov and Volosozhar are the first figure skaters to win two gold medals at the same Olympics, having taken gold in pairs and in the inaugural team event. Impressive, aren’t they?

There’s a big difference in height as he towers over the smaller Ukrainian. His longer frame makes his glides and spins seem impossible but the man has excellent control, using his limbs to extend each move adding to that wow factor.

Tatiana’s smaller build allows her partner to hold her during those crazy spins skaters do. He holds her by her wrist and ankle while he skates around, Tatiana just going along for the ride.

She’s got that Tinkerbell vibe going with her hair and outfit. Tatiana is stunning!

The best part is when the skate together backwards, Tatiana in front of Maxim, going at full speed before Maxim holds her and tosses Tatiana up in the air allowing her to spin freely before landing gracefully on the ice. Just wow.

A viewer commented,

“So fluid, graceful and artistic!”

Tatiana then is hoisted up on one arm, striking a beautiful pose as Maxim cruises on the ice, both skaters just riding the song’s beat under the spotlight. Another lift for Tatiana, this time she’s upside down, Maxim skating backwards, before she drops down to his torso stretching out her back for a spin with her partner. The pair dance it out before coming to the center, collapsing together as the song ends. They both lay there in silence.
