“Black Hole Sun” is one of the greatest hits from the 1990s by American band Soundgarden.

It was released in 1994 and topped the Billboard Rock charts. Chris Cornell, Soundgarden’s frontman and the man behind the song’s lyrics, described it as “a sort of a surreal dreamscape, a weird play-with-the-title kind of song.”

As it turns out, the song also inspired these three YouTube musicians to play their own version of it.

The performance was put on by Stories and artist Jennah Belli, and they did an amazing job.

The producers from Stories, the same ones who platformed funk band Scary Pockets, make stripped-down, acoustic covers with the help of LA’s best singers and musicians.

They’ve already worked with Rett Madison, India Carney, Rozzi, Sarah Dugas, Casey Abrams, and many other rising stars who sing so well. Their guest for the “Black Hole Sun” cover is Jennah Bell, a singer-songwriter from Oakland who is currently working on her debut studio album Anatomy. With Ryan Lerman playing guitar, and Lee Pardini on the piano, the famous song got a shiny, new sound and it sounds excellent.

The most lovable aspect of their “Black Hole Sun” rendition is that it’s very respectful of the original without trying to imitate it.

Even so, it has a very innovative arrangement. The three of them sit together. The boys have their instruments and Jennah gently holds her dog in the lap. It’s amazing how calm her dog is the entire time—he clearly enjoys the music too!

In all, Jennah has a strong voice with a uniquely delicate edge.

Jennah studied at the prestigious Berklee College of Music.

She’s already an experienced performed and knows how to control her powerful voice. The young singer took one of the best 90s grunge rock songs and gave it a mellow, smooth vibrato, combining it with the beauty of the original version. The best covers are certainly the ones that take things on in a new way. Her singing abilities are very obvious, and the guitar sounds amazing too. It’s not over-riffed, and the arrangement is perfectly balanced. This sublime version is beautiful exactly because it’s not overdone.

In all, her take was soulful and refreshing.

We are well aware that Soundgarden mastered this song, but Jennah managed to give it some incredible smoothness.

The guitar, the piano, and vocals all work together to achieve a sound that honors the original song gives. Jennah did a spectacular job keeping it creative, and the alternate melodies she gets towards the end of the song are beautiful. Her calmness, enunciation, and luscious voice are incredible.

All three of them are very gifted and made a little miracle when they took such a hit song and transformed it.

They didn’t overcomplicate things; they just stripped it down and gave it a lot of acoustic magic. The minimalist approach to this song resulted in something perfect.

Since it was posted, it has earned more than half a million views in just a couple of months.
