Sondre Olsen-Bye and Tanya Georgiievska took first place at the Boogie Woogie Main Class Nordic Championship in Helsingborg, Sweden.

It wasn’t due to luck.

It wasn’t due to chance.

It wasn’t even due to weak competition (the competitors had some fierce dance moves of their own).

What these two had with them that day was a combination of astounding skill, energy, and a love of swing dance that lit up the stage.

Bringing music into it

The pair were already moving as the music began. However, they didn’t start with the standard swing dance movies. Instead, they leaped right into a playful miming of instrument playing to acknowledge one very important part of swing dance – the music!

As they came together on the stage, they both played an invisible piano to match their chosen bebop tune by Liam Green. Then, Tanya broke out the imaginary drums for a few last beats before their swing dancing officially began.

Lighting up the stage

They glided and bounced across the stage effortlessly with fancy footwork. Their feet never stopped moving, not even for a fraction of a second. This duo has endless energy, and while they were on the stage, it all went into their enthusiastic moves.

The smiles on their faces gave away that this wasn’t just another task.

Swing dance is the love of their life.

An epic routine

They danced in perfect step with each other, but more than that, they showed some seriously remarkable moves.

Tanya effortlessly kicked a foot high over Sondre’s head as they flew across the stage, but she wasn’t the only one adding something extra to the routine. Soon after, Sondre did a backflip using his dance partner’s hands as a springboard.

These two aren’t just dancers; they highlight some serious gymnastic and athletic skills within their routine.

A well-deserved first place

As the music and their dancing came to an end, the audience began cheering, and it only got louder. Everyone in the audience was on their feet, applauding. The performance had been so energizing that they could feel it.

The duo bowed and then excitedly looked to see what scores the judges would give them. They were ecstatic to see the near-perfect results, and so was everyone in the audience.

Getting to know the duo

Sondre and Tanya began their swing dance partnership at the SwingAout Festival 2015. Ever since then, they have been performing and competing all over the globe. They now have ten World Cup wins. That’s extremely impressive!

As if all that competing didn’t keep them busy enough, they have even started their own festival in Dombås, Norway. They call it the Boogie Feet’s Festival. And of course, they perform there as well! Their dance routine is the main attraction.

The two have also started to share their love of swing dance by offering dance lessons. Most of their lessons are offered online these days. Even COVID couldn’t stop this dancing duo from sharing their enthusiasm for swing dance.

They offer beginner, intermediate, and advanced classes. They also delve into lessons on lindy hop and solo jazz. Sondre and Tanya can make any dance moves spring to life. For them, there are no limits.
