Son sings with 90-year-old mom as she strums guitar and melts hearts with beautiful harmony
"Curious thing, human interaction. Most curious to me has been how a little 88 year old woman with Alzheimer's, playing an old Martin guitar with her son, singing a few gospel/bluegrass songs, could have touched millions."

Alzheimer’s is a tricky disease even for the best of doctors, but new evidence continues to show that the musical side of the brain is undamaged by the disease.

That’s readily apparent in this beautiful video of a mother with Alzheimer’s, and her son, singing a duet.

And their debut went viral.

This will bring tears to your eyes!

For Kelly Ridings, music has been the key to connecting with his 93-year-old mother ever since she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.

The disease is known for ravaging its victim’s brains of memories and is the 6th leading cause of death with no known cure.

But music makes a difference.

In this video, Ridings sings a sweet duet with his mother that captivated the world and warmed hearts all over.

In it, they show that there is a silver lining for those with Alzheimer’s.

And it’s in the form of music.

Their love for each other is palpable as they sing the duet.

“Praying For Someone Like Me”

Right from the start, you can feel the love that this mother-son duo has for each other as they begin to sing “Praying For Someone Like Me” by The Schmidts & First Love.

Ridings mother flawlessly goes through the song, hitting every lyric and chord right on cue.

It’s miraculous.

Without knowing the context of this video, you’d have no idea that the 88-year-old suffered from the debilitating disease.

She nails it from start to finish

The now 93-year-old is as happy as can be as she’s able to perfectly play the song from start to finish, and the joy her son gets from the music they play together is written all over his face.

It’s easy to see why this mother-son duo struck an emotional chord with so many people around the world.

Many people can relate.

The CDC estimates around 5.8 million people have Alzheimer’s, which means there are many who can relate to the pain of this disease.

In fact, my own grandmother has Alzheimer’s, and music is also one thing that she’s held onto as the disease progresses.

The mother-son duo has gone viral before.

The mother-son duets are not a rare occasion for the Ridings, and Kelly’s Facebook page makes that pretty obvious.

He’s uploaded many videos of the two singing their favorite gospel and bluegrass songs, which almost always go viral.

Millions of people have been inspired

The comments on all of their videos are littered with people who have had to deal with the same struggle, and Kelly has taken notice of it.

He writes in the caption of one of their Facebook videos:

“Curious thing, human interaction. Most curious to me over the past weeks has been how a little 88 year old woman with Alzheimer’s, playing an old Martin guitar with her son, singing a few gospel/bluegrass songs, could have touched millions around the world. Not only that, but crossed boundaries of race, nationality, religion, culture, and many other walls that separate us.” Kelly Ridings

It’s hard not to get emotional when you see beautiful moments like these, and we’re just glad the Ridings family shares them with us as we absolutely adore his mother.
