Who doesn’t enjoy a great guitar solo?
When an artist is really good, a guitar solo can be a transcendent experience. When there are great vocals thrown in as well, things can get quite interesting. Combine that with a catchy rhythm, and intriguing lyrics in Portuguese, and you have it—a Sofi Tukker summer night concert.
Sofi Tukker’s songs are featured everywhere—from Apple commercials, to HBO TV shows and Peloton commercials.
The band is often described as “an insatiable dance collection of jungle pop songs.”
Based in Florida, this American music duo is best known for their songs “Drinkee,” “Purple Hat” and “Best Friend.”
Two musicians behind the band’s name and work are Sophie Hawley-Weld and Tucker Halpern.
Sophie was born in Germany and her family then moved to Canada. She finished high school in Atlanta and attended the university in Duino, Italy. Now we know where the duo’s versatility comes from!
Halpern, on the other hand, has spent his whole life in the United States, and he was actually a basketball player before.
After the injury, Tucker was forced to come up with a different career – he began to work as a DJ, and the love for creating music was born.
For this innovative group, the nominations and awards keep on coming.
For people who said that they “don’t take themselves or their music too seriously,” these two are doing pretty well. In 2017, one of their most popular songs, “Drinkee,” was nominated for a Grammy Award in the category of Best Dance Recording. Two years later and the duo’s Treehouse album received another Grammy nomination for Best Dance/Electronic Album.
They’ve garnered quite a number of YouTube subscribers, and they’ve got 313,000 Instagram followers.
Funnily 3enough, it seems like Sofi Tukker’s relaxed approach has been the main reason for their fans to take them seriously!
“Drinkee” is the song the duo is performing in the video.
Filmed during one of the 2016 KCRW Summer Nights Concert Series, at One Colorado in Pasadena, California. The duo’s live show is all about treating the audience with one of their most successful songs.
They both look like they’re having so much fun!
They’re in their moment, and you have to admire the way they just let go.
The audience is screaming in the background, and everyone is enjoying the performance where there’s no pressure to make it perfect.
It spontaneously turns out perfect all on its own.
Since it was posted, 12 million YouTube viewers have had the honor to sit back and enjoy the show. We hope they did exactly as we described. And did we mention that “Drinkee” is in Portuguese? What do you do if you don’t understand the song? Well, you can translate it, of course, but that might not even be necessary. According to Sophie, the point is “the nonsense.”
The less you understand, the more laid back you are.
The music can flow through you without having to deal with certain thoughts that block you from feeling it fully. It’s a nice message, and we enjoyed sharing it with “Drinkee” on repeat. Go on, Sophie and Tucker, your music is amazingly contagious. Especially during times like these, we can use this kind of enthusiasm!
