The incredible jam band Snarky Puppy is at it again!
Though they’ve made a name for themselves online, here they play an original song, “Shofukan (We Like it Here),” live in Utrecht, Netherlands. You won’t be able to sit still when these funky rhythms take hold of your body and soul. They show us why they’re a three-time Grammy-winning band in this stunning video.
Snarky Puppy’s sound could never get old, and this one is especially soothing!
This epic session was filmed and recorded at Kytopia Studios in Utrecht, Netherlands, over a three-day period.
Led by the lead member and founder, Michael League, on the bass. In this video, Snarky Puppy plays a terrific live set of their song, ‘Shofukan,’ off of the “We Like It Here” DVD.
No other band blends instruments quite like this group does—whether that means violins, guitars, trumpet, drums, or anything else! Altogether, this group has a total of 10 different types of instruments playing in this performance, and each one is better than the last.
One minute into the performance, a trumpet player takes the lead—and it’s brilliant right away.
The beginning of the song starts off slow and mellow, with a unique mix of guitar, drums, trumpet and violin. Right away, the group has the live audience mesmerized. But before anyone can latch onto the rhythm, an amazing trumpet player breaks out into a solo before the rest of the band comes in behind him, completely switching things up.
Still, it would be a mistake to forget about the awesome percussionists on the drums. After all, they’re holding the whole performance together! Throughout the song, they stay right on cue the whole time.
The performance takes an electronic turn around 4:35, with keyboard and synthesizers that have never sounded so good.
As always, Cory Henry and Shaun Martin, are stellar on the keyboard! They start playing a futuristic tune that is out of this world. Although some groups have their own unique leads, Snarky Puppy isn’t the type of band where only one person stands out.
Every member of the band is highly skilled with their instruments, and many of them also have beautiful singing voices. You can check them out in this a cappella performance.
With over 9.2 million views on YouTube, it’s safe to say this clip went viral.
People all over fell in love with the awesome jam band’s sound, though users also pointed out the amazing cinematography that takes place in their videos.
“Can we take a moment to appreciate the cinematography in these videos? The camerapeople are almost as phenomenal as the musicians, they capture all of these tiny details that add to the sensations of the music — I honestly feel like I was there just by watching.” Said one YouTube user.
“Besides the insaneness of the musicianship in this, I DO NOT understand how it’s mixed so incredibly well. There are at least 900 instruments present! haha Kudos to the engineers making it sound so good behind the scenes.” Said another.
To cap it all off, Michael League leads the band in an insane collage of melodies and sounds.
You don’t even have to like music to love this. After all, Snarky Puppy is bar-none when it comes to these kinds of live performances. No matter what video, the crowd always becomes instantly enthralled with these funky musicians.
