The Lip Sync Challenge united police and fire departments across the nation in the hope of bringing fun and games closer to their community.
The challenge is fairly simple: once a department gets the challenge, they have to do their duty and lip-sync to some catchy songs. Then they challenge someone else and that’s how it became a viral sensation.
Let’s see how the Skokie Police Department from Illinois responded to the challenge.
As it turns out, these police officers are hiding some serious dancing talent under those uniforms!
It starts with the theme song from “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.”
At the beginning, we see a police officer writing graffiti on a dumpster and he gets busted by his colleague. After straightening things up, the officers share their choreography, play some basketball, and hang out on a playground. The funny thing is that they time their activities flawlessly to fit with the “Fresh Prince” lyrics!
From the playground, the stage moves to the inside of the Police Department where a group of policemen dances to Queen’s “We Will Rock You.”
As they walk through the hall, the song switches to “Jump On It.” A lot is going on, and we have to appreciate the way they combined the songs so far and adapted to them. Even so, they’re not done.
Before long, they’re all doing the macarena!
The department got very creative and we have to say that every member has the perfect lip-syncing abilities as far as we can see.
It’s clear that the police officers are having a ball and the entire thing is very entertaining. As it turns out, the Skokie Police Department also knows the Gangnam Style dance—and right after the macarena, we see them doing his choreography.
Just when you think you’ve seen it all, a stop sign appears and the scene switches to a garage.
Standing by police cars, these talented officers dance to NSYNC “Bye Bye Bye.” The song changes once again and a police dancing couple moves to the rhythm of “Watch me” by Silentó.
It’s great to see these officers being footloose!
Later on, “Macho Man” by the Village People blasts around the police as we see police working out, preparing themselves to serve and protect.
When “YMCA” begins, everyone moves outside and does the final dance by the police truck. The camera also shows the Skokie Police Department sign and we can see that some senior officers were also included. In the end, the department challenges the Lincolnwood Police Department and the Niles Police Department.
In all, ideas like this are good for the community.
On their performance, Skokie Police Chief Anthony Scarpelli said it best:
“It’s a positive thing when police departments find new or unique ways to communicate with the public.”
He added that “producing a video was an excellent way to build up social media following.” Videos like this boost positivity among people and it’s nice to be reminded that police like to have fun as much as everyone else. Since it was posted in July 2018, the video got more than 2 million YouTube views. We love the outcome of the lip sync challenge and we’re happy to see a lot of people participating!
