Skating is fun!
While we might have all enjoyed skating when we were younger, how many of us have actually stuck with it? If you have, hats off to you! It’s a skill that I wish I had mastered.
Not only does skating get you from point a to point b in a much shorter time frame but you’ll also look pretty cool getting there. Whether your choice of skates is rollerblades or a skateboard, you’re bound to earn some cool points.
Another advantage of skating is the unique opportunity to perform in front of others. After all, you’ve put all the hard work into the sport, why not show others what you can do?
One young lady is doing all of the above. Her name is Luna Casaretto and she is a well-known, respected rollerblade skater.
Casaretto is a skater for MAGMA PATINAJE ARTISTICO. MAGMA is a figure skating club but instead of skating on ice, they skate on the floor using rollerblades. The name for this style of skating is called inline skating.
It sounds pretty neat, right? Just wait until you see it. You might be getting out those old rollerblades of yours pretty soon.
In a YouTube video posted in 2014, Casaretto skates to the earth-shattering “I Will Always Love You,” by the late Whitney Houston.
Just like in figure skating, the skater’s name is announced and the skater rolls out onto the floor to cheers and applause. Of course, instead of the smooth white ice we’re used to, she skates out on what appears to be a gymnasium floor.
She begins in the middle of the floor, head down awaiting her cue. Houston’s heavenly voice fills the quiet arena.
Casaretto moves slowly and deliberately. Since the beginning is acapella, she has to be very careful here as it can be easy to stray from the rhythm of the song.
When she stands, it isn’t just in any old way. She gracefully bends over and kicks her legs over her head. She lands just as gently as she began. The audience begins to clap and cameras flash as she skates to one side of the room, prepping to continue with the rest of the routine.
She spins and turns around the gym with flawless movements. When she leaps off of the floor and performs her first spin, it’s difficult not to hold your breath. Can she really do this?
Indeed she can. She lands it with a smile and receives cheers from the crowd.
As the song picks up in intensity, Casaretto gains momentum. She skates a little faster, utilizing the entire gymnasium. And just before Houston hits the signature climax of the song, Casaretto begins a fast-paced, one-legged spin that seems to last for ages.
When completed, it’s followed by excited applause.
Casaretto even skates holding one leg in the air and skates backward, pulling her leg to her head.
Towards the end, she gives one last final spin. This time, however, she takes it to the floor, all while maintaining her rapid speed. Then, she skates back to where the routine began and finishes on the floor.
The crowd loves her performance. After all, it was quite spectacular!
