Singer’s a capella ‘Stand By Me’ is touched by most angelic sound

June 30th, 2020

You would think that you can’t do too much with just one person’s voice, but that couldn’t be more wrong. And Swedish Youtuber Julia Westlin, who is currently based in Canada, proves that perfectly with her insanely skilled a capella arrangements.

In a video uploaded back in 2018, Westlin covered the song “Stand By Me,” which is originally by Ben E King. It starts out simple with some airy backup vocals as Westlin begins to sing the first verse of the song.

The background vocals are so whimsical and atmospheric, it almost sounds as if Westlin is singing from heaven. It sounds like she’s sonically floating amid a bunch of harmonies and it is simply gorgeous.

Later on in the performance, singer David MeShow joins and contributes some bass vocals. He also helped mix and master the final product.

MeShow’s contributions are subtle but so powerful. They just add that extra layer and really give the tune some depth. Together, their voices sound like pure magic, almost like two angels coming together to sing!

The performance is presented beautifully.

The presentation of this video is so well thought-out too! Westlin switches between a beautiful red dress and a beautiful white dress while MeShow is also dressed to impress. The editing of the video makes it clear who is singing and what part they are singing.

It’s really interesting to watch as they switch parts and come in and out with different lines. Clearly so much work has gone into this performance — it shows and it also really pays off.

At the end of the performance, Westlin pops on to wish her followers a happy Valentine’s Day and it is so sweet.

“I’m so happy to share this day with you and I hope you enjoy this love song,” she said. “I really love this song, it means something special for me and I hope this version will mean something special for you.”

If you like this video from Westlin, the good news is she has hundreds more! She has done acapella covers of “Zombie” by The Cranberries, “All Of Me” by John Legend, “My Heart Will Go On” by Celine Dion, and so much more. Seriously, so much content. You can check it all out right here.

More recently, Westlin has been releasing her own original songs as well. Just last month she released her new acoustic guitar-driven song “Stay” and it is really stunning.

If you’re a fan of artists like Evanescense or Avril Lavigne, you are definitely going to love her original material. It’s filled with emotion and heartbreak.

Her cover of “Stand By Me” is up to 4.5 million views which is pretty amazing but not surprising. It’s so good, of course the whole world is into it!

“This has long been a favorite song of mine, ever since I was a child listening to doo wop with my parents. I’ve heard many, many renditions of this iconic song, but I can safely say this is without a doubt the most beautiful version I’ve heard. Thank you so much for this. You are a true artistic spirit,” a Youtube user commented.
