Everyone knows you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover.
But still, it happens all the time on reality shows like American Idol and the Got Talent series.
For example, Susan Boyle didn’t exactly walk out with “star qualities,” but she ended up blowing everyone away during her audition, and going on to achieve great success in the music industry.
The video below shows another act that was “misjudged.”
When “Collabro,” a group of young men, stepped onto the stage of Britain’s Got Talent, the judges were far from impressed.
To them, boy bands were a common sight, and Collabro, with their everyday jobs as laborers, hospital workers, and gas station attendants, didn’t seem to break the mold.
Their admission of only singing together for a month did little to raise expectations, prompting eye rolls from Simon Cowell and a facepalm from Amanda Holden.
However, the judges’ skepticism was about to be spectacularly overturned.
Instead of a typical pop number, Collabro chose the challenging “Stars” from Les Misérables.
This unexpected choice marked the beginning of a performance that would defy all preconceptions.
They had everyone in awe.
Each member of Collabro showcased his unique vocal talent, displaying a range from deep and resonant to versatile and dynamic.
As they harmonized in a five-part ensemble, their pitch-perfect voices filled the audition hall, leaving the audience and judges captivated.
The performance culminated in a roaring standing ovation.
Amanda Holden was visibly moved, leaping to her feet in applause.
She expressed her overwhelming pride and admiration, saying, “You’ve reduced me to tears. I just could burst with pride for you. That was bloody brilliant.”
Simon Cowell, known for his blunt critiques, admitted his initial skepticism but praised their “absolutely brilliant audition.”
But they weren’t done yet.
The judges’ praise continued, with David Walliams commending their song choice and calling the audition “flawless.”
Alesha Dixon was astounded by their rapid progress, declaring it one of the strongest auditions she had ever witnessed.
The members, visibly emotional, absorbed the accolades with tears of joy and pride.
Collabro had won everyone over.
Their impressive performance earned them four enthusiastic ‘yeses,’ propelling them to the next round.
As they celebrated, Susan Boyle’s rendition of “I Dreamed a Dream” played in the background, a nod to the Britain’s Got Talent sensation who had similarly captivated the world with a song from Les Misérables.
Collabro’s journey didn’t end there.
They went on to win the season and joined the ranks of artists signed to Simon Cowell’s record label, Syco.
Their success story, which began in a room above a London pub, led them to tour globally and sign with a major American label.
It’s an incredible audition that won’t be forgotten and has racked up over 51 million views.
