Joshua, Bethany, and Manny Humlie are three talented siblings who grew up surrounded by music in their house.

All three took music lessons growing up—Bethany learned to play the bass, Manny learned guitar, and Joshua learned the drums and piano. As adults, the siblings decided to form a band together. They called themselves We Three.

Tragically, the siblings’ mother was diagnosed with cancer in September 2015. She passed away four months later. To help cope with their grief, the siblings turned to music. The youngest sibling, Manny, wrote a song from his mother’s perspective, “Heaven’s Not Too Far Away.”

In an interview with KGW, Manny explained why he wrote the song from his mother’s perspective:

“I think it was so impactful because it was like we got to have another conversation with her. Every time we listen to it, we get to have another conversation with her.”

From 2015 to 2018, the siblings released a few songs as singles. Then, in 2018, they decided to try their luck auditioning on America’s Got Talent. They decided they wanted to perform “Heaven’s Not Too Far Away.”

The siblings began their audition by explaining the history of the song and the meaning behind it. The judges were touched when they learned it was from their late mother’s perspective.

Then, We Three began singing and playing their instruments. The judges were blown away by how talented the siblings were.

Joshua played both the piano and drums during the audition, Bethany played the bass, and Manny played the guitar and sang the lead vocals. All three did an incredible job. As the siblings sang the emotional song, there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.

After the audition, the judges all said they loved the performance. Mel B. was particularly emotional—she explained she had recently lost her father to cancer. Heidi Klum and Simon Cowell also gave positive feedback to the trio.

“I’m always struggling with bands on shows like this, but somehow the whole thing worked. It felt like a record,” Simon said.

All four judges said yes, and We Three moved onto the next round.

Over the next few weeks, We Three continued doing well in the competition. They sailed through the Judges’ Cut round and the Quarter Finals. Unfortunately, though, they were cut in the Semi-Finals.

Even though We Three didn’t end up winning America’s Got Talent, they didn’t let that stop them from continuing to chase their dreams.

In the year since they were on AGT, We Three have put out a self-titled album. They also perform regularly in their hometown of Portland, Oregon. Plus, they’re also active on YouTube—they regularly put out videos on their channel.
