But before all this fame, a young Jessica bounded on pretty awesome stepping stones that led her to where she is today.

Jessica grew up in a small town just outside of Sacramento, California. When she was only 11 years old, she joined an online contest and won the opportunity to sing for English singer and songwriter, Cher Lloyd.

Not many preteens would have the confidence to get up in front of a world famous artist and sing.

But Jessica was ready.

She chose a Miley Cyrus song, and little did she know it would be that four-minute performance of “Wrecking Ball” that would cause her popularity to skyrocket and her career to slowly blossom.

She blew everyone away when she started singing.

It was such an impressive performance that the video her mom shared online gained over 5 million views.

After a short introduction with the team in charge of the event, Jessica was ready to give it her best shot.

“I never meant to start a war,
I just wanted you to let me in.
And instead of using force,
I guess I should’ve let you in.
I never meant to start a war.”

She stood on that stage, looking like she was born for stardom. Calm and ready, the charming 11-year-old faced the audience with confidence, sporting studded jeans, dark nails, and highlights in her hair.

No one online and in that room could believe such a strong voice could come from a young girl barely in her teens yet.

You’ll notice Jessica didn’t try to sound like Miley Cyrus in this performance, a detail that definitely signified uniqueness.

She took inspiration from the song and artist and gave everyone a version to remember – a version from which would eventually stem countless opportunities in the music industry.

More than just a voice that would fill the room and have everyone sitting up and paying attention, she knew how to connect with her audience. The readiness she showed at such a young age showed in the way she carried herself: eye contact, wide smiles, and no signs of hesitation or nervousness.

And even when she had to hit the high notes of the song, she maintained her composure.
