There were no fancy editing tricks done. No complicated camera work or tedious choreography here. Just a bunch of guys in a shop having some fun while they carry out their version of the “Lip Sync Challenge.”
This is the Sherman Police Department and as you probably guessed by now, they were challenged to do this, which means they’ll challenge another police department after. It’s a trend!
They’re real slick too.
Where other departments went the extra mile for their videos, these guys took a different route. The cops pulled a scene from a classic film, changed the setting and the costumes, but still carried out the same lines and even the song used.
We’re talking Top Gun! Tom Cruise as Maverick the pilot having a night out with his buddies at a bar. The scene is when Maverick approaches a woman at the bar where he starts singing, “You’ve lost that loving feeling“.
Cops in a bar?
That wouldn’t work. Besides, it’s not allowed. But they ARE known for donuts so a donut place would definitely work. In fact the place is full of cops! It’s like the entire department decided to drop by. Must be really good donuts!
So four cops seated at a table discuss what they should do for their lip sync challenge, putting out ideas here and there but none of the suggestions seem right. What they need is something impromptu.
Until he sees a girl by the display counter.
He nudges his friend, pointing out the pretty girl who was minding her own business, as he goes,
“She’s lost that loving feeling.”
His friend doesn’t feel the same way.
“No, she hasn’t.”
Goose, sorry, Bruce, won’t have it.
No mic? Grab a Long John!
What follows is an exact copy of the famous bar scene but this time, it’s two cops in a donut shop. He taps the lady, his friend blocks him, but they both dip before coming back up as he starts singing,
“You never close your eyes anymore when I kiss your lips. And there’s no tenderness like before in your fingertips.”
The pretty lady looks genuinely shocked.
What’s a girl have to do to get a donut? But hey, this is a huge compliment! The other cops gather around just like in the movie, eventually singing along to the “Maverick” of the group. She’s smiling which means it’s working!
Does he get to sit down?
Yes, he most certainly does! Hands raised in the air as a sign of his triumph, the donut cop successfully sits next to the pretty lady.
Sherman PD ends the challenge right there. A taller officer walks towards the camera, issuing a challenge to another department before his boys shout out in victory, delighted at their short but entertaining version of the famous scene.
She’s one brave woman!
How many people would enter a shop full of cops anyway? She must have really wanted that donut!
Sherman PD’s take on the lip sync challenge is so refreshing. Where others rely on multiple songs played out across multiple scenes, these guys went raw with their edition. Sometimes, less is so much more. No crash and burn here. They’ve definitely held their own.
