Teen choir performances are not what they used to be. Now, thanks to shows like Glee, kids get to choose more contemporary songs to showcase their vocal skills.
That’s why the teens of the Mount Sion Choir in Waterford City, Ireland chose the song “Shallow” from the A Star is Born soundtrack.
The song is a duet that was sung by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper in the movie and is quite vocally challenging.

The country power ballad was featured in the movie three times. The song was written by Gaga with Mark Ronson, Anthony Rossomando, and Andrew Wyatt.
It was produced by Gaga with Benjamin Rice.
Jessica Reinl and Christopher Halligan where scheduled to cover the duet for the Mount Sion Choir’s first Christmas concert held at the St. Patrick’s Gateway Centre.
Jessica is a fifth-year student at Ursuline Waterford and Christopher is a graduate. They were backed by the choir which, according to The Irish Post, is made up of 25 kids between the age of 12 and 19.
And they’re quite active.
The choir has recorded a song with Post Country Music Award winner and Irish songwriter Don Mescall called “Your Love Carries Me.” It was written by Mescall for Westlife’s Shane Filan and will be released ahead of World Cancer Day on Feb. 4.
Funds raised by the song will go to the Solas Cancer Support Centre, CanTeen Ireland, and CanCare4Living organizations.
Jessica and Christopher’s performance is just astounding.
It’s been viewed more than 32 million times on the internet. But everyone’s favorite part of the video is Christopher’s reaction to Jessica’s stunning vocals.
It’s actually pretty hysterical. At first, he does a double take as if he can’t believe that such an incredible sound is coming from the girl standing next to him.
A huge grin spreads across his face as he delighted in her powerful and soulful stylings.
Jessica seriously went all out for this performance. She absolutely kills it and the results are incredible. Jessica and Christopher have sung together before but this time he was really taken aback with how dedicated she was to this song.
“Christopher Halligan you and the girl were AMAZING!! Waterford is very proud of the little choir and ye should be proud of yerself too,” said one person on Facebook.
“Christopher Halligan you also have a really wonderful voice, and I love the respect and encouragement you showed Jessica,” said another.
“I don’t know what you guys feel like, but I feel like she sings her part better than Lady Gaga does. No hate to Lady Gaga of course, but this is just how I feel!” and another.
