Musicians often experiment, improvise, and surprise us during their live performances.

It’s not uncommon to hear a country singer performing a rock song, or vice versa. Therefore, we weren’t surprised when Shakira decided to perform Metallica’s most famous song.

Often regarded as the Queen of Latin Music, Shakira made her recording debut at the age of 13.

There were some ups and downs at the beginning, but her 2001 album Laundry Service sold over 13 million copies. That’s when the whole world got to know Shakira and singles like “Whenever, Wherever” cemented her status of a leading crossover artist.

The winner of three Grammy Awards, 12 Latin Grammy Awards, and seven Billboard Music Awards is the best-selling Latin artist in history.

On the other side, “Nothing Else Matters,” Metallica’s song from their 1992 album of the same name, became one of the most recognizable songs by the band. Now imagine the two combined.

As she said it herself, Shakira’s music is “a fusion of many different elements.”

We like this fusion a lot. The “Hips Don’t Lie” singer also added that she “used to be a huge Metallica fan at high school.” What a nice way to pay a tribute to one of your favorite bands!

Multiple sets of different musicians keep up with Shakira’s choreography during the show.

You can see that she’s giving 100% of her energy to the audience. The concert we’re seeing is in Accor Arena in Paris, and it’s part of the 2010 Sale el Sol World Tour. Everyone who may have forgotten that Shakira was influenced by rock music as a child, had an opportunity to remember that interesting fact when the “Nothing Else Matters” instrumental started playing. The crowd greeted it with huge applause.

You can almost feel it in the air that something wonderful is about to happen.

Not only did Shakira sing Metallica’s huge hit, but she also made it part of a beautiful medley. It begins with a lovely melody of the song “Aatini Al Naya Wa Ghani” by the famous Lebanese singer Fairuz. To point out just how big of a star Fairuz is, let’s just say that in Lebanon she is as famous as Elvis Presley is in the United States!

The song’s lyrics translate to “Give me the flute and sing.”

Then “Nothing Else Matters” goes on, and the medley ends with Shakira’s 2008 song “Despedida.”

Shakira is a professional at incorporating Latin theme into the music.

You can hear and feel the original emotion and tone of the song, but this Colombian singer gave this rendition a little twist.

Her famous yodeling, the instruments, and the fact that it’s a completely acoustic cover make an exciting difference!

The audience loves it, and we enjoyed seeing that everyone in the crowd knew the words.

However, as versatile as any musician is, we can’t picture Metallica performing “Waka Waka” during a concert. That would be quite a surprise.

Imagine Metallica and Shakira doing this song together!

Barefoot, full of energy, and ready to bring the house down—that’s how Shakira appeared on stage and blew everyone away.

The video is uploaded to Shakira’s official YouTube channel in 2012. More than 25 million people have seen it since then. We bet that most of them have the same idea in mind: it would be twice as unforgettable if she played it live with Metallica. We still root for it to happen!
