Rose-Garcia, better known as Shakey Graves, is an American folk musician who successfully combines blues, folk, country, and rock and roll.
His one-man-band set up made him famous, and his name was coined when Shakey and his friends performed at Old Settler’s Music Festival in 2007. They joked around and gave each other Indian guide names over a campfire. Graves like the name so much, he decided to keep it.
Fast forward a couple of years and he’s performing a duet with lovely Esme Patterson!
All of this was talent from Austin, in Austin.
Shakey Graves stopped by the Pandora House in Austin, Texas, to play a song called “Dearly Departed” with vocalist Esme Patterson.
But, not so fast—before getting to the song, Graves explains the past of Austin, explaining his work and his plans in a bit more detail. Surrounded by beautiful greenery, Graves says that he made his latest album over three years and adds that he loves to enjoy the process and take his time. We also find out that the other half of the duet, Patterson, is from Denver, Colorado.
Together they’re writing “simple, jaunty, 50s to 70s country music.”
The raw, artistic expression makes the duet unforgettable.
Patterson and Graves share lovely chemistry and it builds as the duet goes on.
Aside from having beautiful voices, they decided to visually complement each other as well. Her floral dress, combined with cowboy boots, is a perfect match to Graves’s style. Watching them is just as enjoyable as listening to them in person. Graves has often said that he wants to play with harmonies, and we get the feeling from this video that he’s finally doing it. The whole song is full of amazing harmonies, and Graves’s concentration goes perfectly with Patterson’s playful attitude and the way she blows the song up.
The way they incorporate hand clapping in various spots of the song just makes it even more enjoyable.
It’s not hard to clap your hands and the song seduces you into it and singing along! You can see that they’re having so much fun and it makes you feel good.
No matter who you are, this performance is sure to send shivers down your spine.
The song is relaxed, flowing, comfortable, and simply stunning.
It’s the kind of song that makes you feel like releasing your voice and singing from the top of your lungs, and just enjoying the simple ability to produce a sound. These performances encourage listeners to live life and enjoy it.
The funniest part comes around the third minute of the song when Graves is about to swear—and then he remembers he’s on Pandora and has to keep it G-rated. He gets out smoothly though and remembers to skip the word in time.
This gentleman from Texas also appeared in some movies too.
In case you didn’t know before his music career took off, Graves appeared in Friday Night Lights and the Spy Kids franchise.
In 2015, Graves won the Best Emerging Artist award at the Americana Music Awards, and Patterson released “There Will Come Soft Rains” in 2020. Her album is streaming on all platforms. They are both known as engaging live performers whose songs sound even better in person. Since it was posted, this “Dearly Departed” performance on Pandora got eight million YouTube views!
