Prepare to have your day brightened because if you haven’t yet discovered The Voice Senior, you’re in for a treat.
Originating in the Netherlands, this show is a spin-off of the iconic singing competition, “The Voice.”
The format remains largely the same, complete with blind auditions and teams led by judges.
The catch? The contestants are all above the age of 60, which adds a whole new layer of excitement to the show.
This unique twist opens up a world of possibilities, allowing a diverse range of talents to shine who might otherwise be overlooked.
One such talent is Jimi Bellmartin, who not only participated but also clinched the title in the inaugural season of The Voice Senior.
The moment Jimi Bellmartin opened his mouth to sing, the judges were floored.
They couldn’t hit their buzzers fast enough to turn their chairs around.
His song of choice? “It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World.” And boy, did he nail it.
His voice was so compelling that it was instantly clear to everyone: they were witnessing the rise of a new star.
At the time of his audition, Bellmartin was in his late 60s, but age was just a number for this performer.
His initial performance alone was enough to signal that he had the chops to outshine the competition and take home the trophy.
A little background on our star: Jimi Bellmartin is a Dutchman with Indonesian roots and a member of the funk band The Soul Snatchers.
After his victory, his bandmates couldn’t contain their excitement.
They posted a message saying, “We can’t tell you how proud we are.
Soul Warrior No 1 Jimi Bellmartin won the first edition of The Voice Senior worldwide… well deserved of course.
His ‘blind audition’ was a spectacular one, after hittin’ that first note all members of the jury were immediately impressed and tried to get Jimi on their team.”
As for the coaches who were lucky enough to snag him for their team, it was none other than the dynamic duo “Geer and Goor,” also known as Gordon and Gerard Joling.
During the finale, Bellmartin performed “To Love Somebody” and “Stand By Me,” earning him the nickname “the swing king” on social media.
The final showdown was a spectacle, to say the least.
According to The Soul Snatchers’ website, “After several weeks of ‘competition’ over 2 million people watched the finals and were given the option to vote by phone/SMS.
Finally, Jimi Bellmartin turned out to be the first winner of The Voice Senior.”
The internet was buzzing with praise for Bellmartin.
Online comments likened him to the legendary James Brown and celebrated his undeniable passion and vocal prowess.
But Bellmartin didn’t stop there; he leveraged his newfound fame to release an EP and perform live at prestigious venues like the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam.
And let’s not forget, his fan base is global. People from Croatia, Poland, South America, and beyond have expressed their admiration for him on YouTube.
Though he may have found fame later in life, there’s no doubt that Jimi Bellmartin’s time in the spotlight is well-deserved.
