The fifteen-year-old Sarah Ikuma immediately achieved star-status after her audition for Britain’s Got Talent. The young student isn’t a stranger to singing on a stage, but she’s never performed for so many people at once and for the millions watching at home.
When she told the judges that she would perform ‘And I Am Telling You’ by Jennifer Hudson, the judges were doubtful she could pull it off.
After all, ‘And I Am Telling You’ is considered to be one of the most difficult songs in the world – but Sarah was definitely up for the challenge. Simon, in particular, was clearly interested if she could actually do the beautiful song justice.
“But that’s one of the biggest songs out there,” he said to her. “And you think you can do that?”
However, the second she started signing, everyone in the room knew that Sarah would make this a performance to remember.
When she started to get to the middle of the song, her passionate energy, and incredibly talented vocals start to shine the most.
The audience couldn’t believe what they were hearing, especially given Sarah’s young age. She proves that age is just a number, because thanks to this amazing audition, she’s well on her way to stardom.
After the audience, the judges showered her with compliments.
“I couldn’t believe you were only 15,” Amanda Holden said while calling her performance “mind-blowing”.
However, it was Simon’s comment that really resonated with everyone.
“It’s like you were possessed! I have heard that song loads, but you nailed it, you made it yours!”
Simon also immediately pressed that big golden button, because she clearly deserved it after brilliantly performing this song.
The fifteen-year-old from Buckinghamshire was absolutely stunned by the golden buzzer as the whole crowd erupted in cheers. “Enjoy this, I’m thrilled for you and your family,” he said.
Sarah was actually asked to audition by a Britain’s Got Talent scout after they heard her singing at the more smaller talent and school competitions, most of which she won.
Aside from her studies, Sarah is also pursuing her dream of having a music career.
After the auditions, she performed another bold song – Prince’s Purple Rain. The performance was made even more special by the inclusion of a choir, which blended it perfectly with Sarah’s beautiful voice. He then proceeded to give her another amazing compliment.
“Of all the years that we’ve ever done Britain’s Got Talent, you are the best singer who’s come on here.”
Sarah was shockingly sent home by the audience in one of the semi-final episodes, but the judges brought her back with a wildcard, giving her a ticket to the finals. And even though she didn’t win the grand prize, her musical career has definitely kicked off and is currently buzzing.
In fact, she recently appeared on the very prestigious Live at the Apollo in the States.
And even though she already had quite the reputation, she still managed to blow everyone away with her mesmerizing voice. The audience didn’t even wait to give her standing ovation and got out of their seats just a few seconds into the song! Quite the achievement for what is known as a tough crowd.
One thing is for sure: Simon doesn’t just give out his golden buzzers to anyone on the show – he hands them to potential superstars. It looks like Sarah Ikumu was a perfect choice!
