Ryan Boz and Alexis Garrish know how to swing themselves into first place.
Ryan and Alexis competed at the US Open Swing Dance Championships as a pair and took home first place for the Young Adult Division. This competition is the highest swing dance competition within the United States. Once you watch their performance you are going to quickly understand why Alexis and Ryan won. They are magical together.
Ryan and Alexis had only been dancing together for one year, but they dance as if they have been dancing forever. They performed to WALK THE MOON’s song “Shut Up and Dance,” which kept a fun upbeat dance throughout their entire performance. These two never stumbled over any of the choreography and glided through the dance together.
It might have helped that they created most of their own choreography for the dance.
Alexis Garrish has been dancing since a little girl. She is trained in many different dance styles such as Jazz, Ballet, Tap, Hip Hop, Lyrical and Country. Alexis is no stranger to being the best dancer at competitions. Her dancing resume, as a young adult, already includes being,
“…a 5 time 8 dance World Champion to include 2step, Polka, Triple 2, Nightclub, Cha, Waltz, East Coast & West Coast Swing. She is one of the youngest highest ranking West Coast swing Dancers in the World.”
Ryan Boz has also been a dancer since a very young age. Ryan started dancing at age five in Shag, Hip Hop and West Coast Swing. Ryan’s dancing resumes includes winning 3rd placed in the Cabaret Division at the US Open and being a member of the US Open Swing Team Champions.
Alexis and Ryan have dancing in their blood.
Both of their mother’s competed in Swing competitions, including the US Open, within their lives. They had even competed against each other throughout their own careers. These mothers went from competing against each other to coming together and rooting for their children together. It came full circle for these dancing families.
Ryan and Alexis coming together to dance created a force to be reckoned with on the dance floor.
As the pair walk out onto this dance floor there are only smiles on their faces and no nerves anywhere in sight. These two might be in the Young Adult Division but they are already seasoned pros. Their smiles stay on their faces throughout the entire performance. They dance as if they are just having a great time, not as if they are competing.
Ryan and Alexis flow together throughout the dance. As they swing, spin, and dance it is if they are moving in unison. As Ryan’s mother, Debbie Ramsey Boz, states,
“They did a fabulous performance, doing mostly their own choreography and commanded the floor with their lines, patterns, musicality and showmanship!”
Alexis and Ryan performance is so fun to watch because they are having so much fun. These two have found their life’s calling and they have found it young. They completely own that dance floor and they know it. Their choreography includes dance moves that seem so complex, but they perform the moves with such ease.
When the dance ends, they are still not done dancing.
Alexis and Ryan wave to the crowd, who are giving them a well-deserved standing ovation. As they wave and bow, they are still dancing small moves as they move on the dance floor. Their love of dance is contagious to watch.
Watch the entire performance and see how long it takes you to smile. It only to me about five seconds!
