The country that stretches over a vast expanse of northern Asia and eastern Europe. By far the largest country, twice the size of Canada and having 11 time zones with deserts, forests, and the Arctic Tundra.
A land of picturesque landscapes and cities as diverse as the many ethnic groups and languages spanning across its regions.
This is Russia. Rich in culture and history, and a land of many controversial stories. That’s what makes it beautiful.
No one is prepared for the magnitude and magnificence of mother Russia.
There exists a stereotype for this land and its people. Always masculine and intimidating. Always the villain.
And yet there exists a magical side to Russia. One the world rarely sees.
You would have to dig deep to find them.
Meet Aleksey Chalov and Olesya Seliverstova.
“Young Talents” is a contest in Podolsk an industrial city. A chance for kids to showcase their talents and perhaps help in reshaping the image of their hometown bit by bit.
Check out Aleksey and Olesya. Looking like an angry housewife who is having an issue with her husband, they march out in a ballroom sequence with a picture of a sewing machine in the middle of the stage.
Aleksey is off to a good start.
Olesya splits and stomps around on stage. Maybe someone forgot their anniversary? Big trouble, Aleksey.
Good guy chases her around with flowers though and it seems to have worked. She spins around and faces him, hands on her hips looking like she’s about to slap him or make up with him.
He knows just what to do.
Like any charming young man, he stands in front of her alert and ready. He is eager to please. Look at that smile!
Olesya reaches for her partner and drags him to her. They both sway to the ballroom beat with sharp and precise movements evoking emotions of passion. Look at them go!
There is so much precision and flair that it seems impossible for kids to be moving like this. One would always think of adults for these kinds of dances.
Aleksey and Olesya display such fancy footwork and grace they could probably evolve in to theater and Broadway. And they barely look 12!
Olesya seems to have forgiven Aleksey’s “shortcomings.”
She’s smiling now. She steps away from him but circles around pumping her hand in the air and it looks like Aleksey knows his efforts worked.
He breaks in to a happy step, jumping to James Brown’s “I feel good” and it certainly shows. Good work, kid! As a matter of fact, Olesya discards her angry robe in favor of a vibrant dress in hues of orange and purple. She looks lovely.
He knows his way to a woman’s heart.
The mood changes. An upbeat and high tempo jam fills the room and she comes to Aleksey. Hand in hand they kick and dance to the beat, spinning and smiling towards each other and the audience.
It’s quite a sight. The liveliness of the dance bringing the once somber tone to an uplifting vibe that matches the vibrant colors. Olesya spins around back and comes through in a shorter skirt, displaying her kicking legs along with Aleksey.
A whirlwind of energy from Aleksey and Olesya.
That sewing machine seems to be doing the trick. Perhaps Aleksey and his magic hands gifted it to Olesya. Her face lights up every time she changes!
