In the High Middle Ages, composers and performers that sang songs about chivalry and love were known as troubadours.

They were the people who put on a show for royal families to entertain their visitors and to please them. But while these epic musical performances were once limited to the wealthy, they have since expanded to be available to people all over the world.

And Estas Tonne, a self-proclaimed modern troubadour, gave his audience some very scenic imagery from a song he played on his guitar.

The song was an original one, an enigmatic tale about the Golden Dragon.

He played the song in front of a gigantic crowd at Landshut in Germany.

Tonne’s song was a complicated arrangement with metaphorical lyrics… and it’s also one of his most complex and fastest busking pieces anyone has ever seen! Though it goes without saying, the entire crowd was on the edge of their seat!

Tonne’s equally amazing perception and imagination in the making of this piece shows how incredibly talented he is in many ways. As the song gets more and more intense, his speed and playing also get more complex and faster.

By doing this, the intensity just rises and rises.

The nine-minute musical piece started off with a long build-up.

Hearing the velvety sound coming from the guitar’s nylon strings makes you feel like there’s something big coming—and indeed, there is. At the 0:56 timestamp, he effortlessly does a riff with his speedy guitar picking to which you can finally feel the rise or the “rush” of the dragon coming forth after its slumber.

About two minutes into the video, the rush gets even stronger and transforms the song into something else. It’s as if an epic battle just transpired in the middle of the fray! The wild blasting sounds of his strums pushes the song into another level.

The fall began at the fourth minute, wherein he abruptly stopped his wild strumming and switched to a more mellow sound. Still, there was plenty left to go. Like a phoenix, his song revived itself into a stronger one after its fall. With the incense stick still burning at the head of his guitar, the song went through more and more iterations.

It’s really true that Tonne is like a bard from the Middle Ages who reincarnated!

His talent is indeed worthy as a modern troubadour in this time and age.

All told, Tonne’s performance at the Buskers’ Festival Stadtspektakel in Landshut garnered more than 73 million views on YouTube.

After watching it, it’s clear to see why it became so popular! Although we may be used to seeing incredible busking performances, it’s rare to see someone who performs in such an old-fashioned and classical style who hasn’t tried to update themselves to “stay with the times.” Fortunately, Tonne has proved that all that really matters is a great stage presence, talent and a passion for your craft. We’re guessing we haven’t seen the last of him!

Congratulations to Este Tonne on his truly epic performance! Check out the full thing in the link below:
