Ballet has a privileged position in Russia, and it’s part of Russian history and national pride.
Yablochko is a Russian folk song, traditionally presented as sailors’ dance. So why not watch some of the best Russian ballet dancers performing a sailors’ dance? That’s exactly what happens in the video below.
More than a dozen ballet performers danced an incredible performance, and Igor Moiseyev did the choreography.
Dancers of this amazingly entertaining video move in some interesting ways and make formations we never dreamed of possible.
Character dance is a style with a high level of professionalism and theatrics. As it turns out, Moiseyev was awarded the UNESCO Mozart Medal for outstanding contribution to world music culture, and that’s just one of his many awards. After seeing this, it’s not hard to be impressed—it’s funny with a lot of amazing details. All the dancers practiced up to perfection and the traditional music they dance to is very catchy.
For a long time in Russia, ballet was open to women only.
Male dancers were later allowed to dance, and we’re certainly glad they were—these men dance like the wind!
This modern dance interpretation of the traditional Russian folk song “Yablochko” is a definition of a job well done.
Interestingly, the song was very popular with the Baltic fleet during the First World War. Throughout this video, the performers dance as if they were in a cartoon and it seems like normal physics don’t apply to them. We had to think about what would it be like if sailors showed up at a random club and stole everyone’s thunder on the dance floor… because that’s what these boys did. Even though they’re not real sailors, the whole performance is so convincing!
They threw determination, passion, and flexibility in one dance routine.
It was a joy to watch these men dance.
The way they move in complete sync is unbelievable, and you have to respect all the hard work behind the choreography that’s very close to perfection. The accordion part in the middle of the routine is the funniest. When no one was expecting it, out comes a man with his accordion who stands in the center of the stage and plays his part perfectly. It’s magnificent—the man plays his accordion, dances simultaneously and makes a beat with his feet, keeping the smile throughout the whole performance.
How did he do it? How did they do it?
These ballet dancers did a beautiful routine and all the while smiled as if their cheeks were glued that way. It’s something else—a new level of competence and dedication. We’ve heard that practice makes perfect, and we’re guessing these dancers burned the floor practicing. Human beings can do epic stuff, and this is proof.
We would love to be on their ship!
These guys have synced at that level that even the claps of the audience seem perfect later.
Since this was posted, this modern “Yablochko” performance got 11 million YouTube views. These dancers can be proud of themselves because their performance was purely amazing. It looks like investing in ballet pays off in Russia! We know that every country has some kind of dance as part of its cultural identity, and these Russian ballet dancers have outdone themselves this time.
