We know that Christian bands and their songs are known to be heartfelt and serious in praise and worship.

Behind the scenes though, we mostly don’t know what’s going on.

In a video uploaded in 2011, Christian group MercyMe gathered their pals to show the world they can also have fun!

MercyMe along with other Christian groups like Jars of Clay, Matt Maher, Thousand Foot Krutch and The Afters and Lecrea assembled backstage to do a hilarious comedic cover of “Ob-la-di, Ob-la-da” by The Beatles during their Rock and Worship Roadshow in 2011.

The band MercyMe is a contemporary Christian music group from Oklahoma formed in 1994.

The sextet includes lead vocalist Bart Millard, percussionist Robby Shaffer, bassist Nathan Cochran and guitarists Michael Scheuchzer and Barry Graul. To date, this cover has garnered over four million views since 2011. If you’ll watch the full version of their cheerful performance of the song, you’ll know why.

The Beatles are legends in the music industry.

They were formed in 1960 with four members, namely John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. They are regarded as one of the most influential bands of all time.

“Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da” is a single from their self-titled album that was released in 1968.

The song was written when the reggae genre was becoming popular in the UK, thus the upbeat arrangement of the song.

Though there are dozens of covers of Beatles songs on the internet, this one will surely make you smile.

The show begins with some loose strumming on the ukulele, followed by the plucking of the guitar and slow rhythm of the cajon.

Soon after, another band follows suit with their instruments and happily harmonize with the lead while dancing down the hall with their silly and not-so-coordinated steps.

The addition of the shaker gave more life to the song.

Meanwhile, the ukulele player has his eyes set on the camera with a serious face that looks like he can see through your soul.

You may not notice at first, but the lead and the ukulele player look like they are drifting through the hall.

As the song goes on, they slowly course the hallway while meeting other groups who happily jump in with their own instruments.

They ended the song with a bang and with confetti flying in the air.

In all, it was a very wholesome video to watch!

If anyone doubted that Christian bands had a whole other side to them, this video ought to clear up that misconception.

These are dark times we’re living in, but watching these groups and their merry performance is at least a little bit uplifting. As it turns out, the song they chose is also perfectly fitting with the times. No matter how hard things get, the song argues, you have to remain positive and keep your head up for a brighter day. We didn’t expect that message to get to us quite this way, but we’re all for it!
