Take a deep, deep breath for this one because you’ll be gasping for more air as you go along.
This is a rock and roll medley, celebrating the fifties and the sixties in full swing (pun intended). These glamorously made up guys and girls are rocking the dance floor in complete costume. Which to be honest looks really good on them.
The fifties gave birth to rock and roll
Jerry Lewis’s “Great balls of fire” is up first. That uptempo beat is perfect for the snappy footwork that requires the quick shuffling of weight from left to right and back again. Bianca and Nils are more than up for the task. They are full time performers, teachers, and choreographers. They’ve got the look down. And the dance? On fire!
A kick here, another one there, one foot forward and twist them together, then the classic hip sway! It’s a Swing dance all the way albeit with a little more sauce on top for pros like Bianca and Nils. It’s got a hint of sexy with a dash of innocence, much like the post-war boom of that era. Can you still breathe? These dancers have just begun.
There’s a whole lotta’ shakin goin’ on!
The hair, the clothes, the mustache… It certainly takes you back to the fifties. Even the lighting is perfect. And that rock and roll medley moves to “Good golly miss Molly” by Little Richard with Arnas Razgūnas and Eglė Nemickaitė taking the floor. And no, they did not need to warm up. Their footwork is even faster though watching them closely, still very much in sync to the melody.
The dance is such a blur that if you blink, you’d miss something.
Right behind them are Stephen and Chanzie whom you can see were already itching to take the floor. These two are known for taking the Swing to an edgier level, with a lot of jumps and jerking motions using more shoulder and facial expressions to convey emotions through dance.
And it’s not a Stephen and Chanzie act if Chanzie doesn’t do one of her flips. Which she does!
Arnas and Egle return to the floor not wanting to be outdone, executing a few spins and a jump of their own. And since the dance bug has caught on, why not have two pairs on the floor? Stephen and Chanzie join in. Girls to the left, men on the right! They slide and jive all around the floor now, sweeping the entire area before joining their partners for Elvis Presley’s “Blue suede shoes”.
Thank you very much!
It’s an awesome partner style dance choreographed to perfection. Four other dancers take over the floor, once again partnered up in pairs. Sophie and Thomas, Flora and Thorbjörn, in matching red and blue outfits which are way more striking than the previous dancers having a go at the rock and roll medley.
One for the money, two for the show…
Check out that double spin! Perfectly executed with awesome timing! They’re certainly doing it all out there. No blue suede shoes here, just white sneakers and a ton of confidence. It’s a party alright!
Johnny B. Goode, anyone?
Tanya and Sondre are in it now, once again stunning everyone with those moves that almost seem like they have no joints. It’s an all out Swing fest much to everyone’s entertainment. Look at the faces on those dancers. Are they having a blast or what? Makes you want to get up and dance, that’s for sure!
