Music lessons are probably the funniest, most creative, and most exciting part of education for many students.
We’re quite certain that the joy doubles up for those who continue to pursue a music career and find people they can vibe with.
Needless to say, the video we’re about to show you is sure to brighten up your day.
The video begins in a classroom, with several students are sitting in a circle.
Their teacher grabs a guitar and inspires them to do a little session. It starts off very spontaneously, but before long, it develops into a little masterpiece with the best shining out of everyone involved! It’s the kind of performance you need to instantly feel better—there are solos, incredible harmonies, guitar melodies and great bass playing as well.
This is music at its finest!
No wonder over a million people have seen it so far. The best part is that these talented young people make you feel like one of them, as if you were sitting in the same room listening to it all. The song they opted for is D’Angelo’s 2000 hit song “Untitled (How Does It Feel).”
The bassist is Kelli Ross-Ma’u, and he has been playing music professionally since he was 11 years old.
Ross-Ma’u began as a member of his father’s band Semisi and FulaBula and is currently one of the premiere Steel Drum musicians for hire in Southern California. Moving on to his brother Tonga Ross-Ma’u, we must point out that Tonga is a multi-instrumentalist, educator, bandleader and producer.
Both Ma’u brothers have musical degrees, but Tonga was more interested in staying at school as a teacher.
Some of their most recent projects are related to bands Ascent Trio and Bomb Squad. They aim to bring their jazz to new frontiers. Students Ennjay Luafalemana, Etiola Luafalemana and Lewis MacDonald went on to perform live all over San Diego. Most of their work can be found on SoundCloud.
Ennjay’s YouTube channel’s full of amazing covers of some of the most popular songs, including Adele’s “When We Were Young,” Bob Marley’s “Redemption Song” and “Ordinary People” by John Legend.
We have to give credit where it’s owed—this teacher didn’t play a single bad note and his improvised solo is excellent!
It must be way harder to play than we imagine. Of course, the lead singer Ennjay is stunning. His voice is pleasant and powerful. The bass player plays perfectly as well, and everyone blends together so well! You get the feeling that they’ve been performing together forever. Another thing to mention, once again, are those beautiful harmonies—if you enjoy them as much as we do, then the video will be a complete revelation for you.
These talented performers should upload more content!
It’s the only video on the channel, and that’s the only shame.
Their jam session was amazing, and we only wish we could see more of their performances. D’Angelo’s original song won a Grammy Award for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance, but we’re guessing he would feel very proud of this rendition. It’s an amazing tune, and here its paired with talented people who made it their own. Needless to say, you’ll be listening to this one over and over again!
