Irish dancing is an art form that captivates people across the globe, both visually and because of the hypnotic sound. It’s an impressive skill that some have mastered to an amazing degree, and fortunately for us, there are performances online that feature some of these dancers.
One video that’s taken people’s breath away comes from the world-famous Riverdance show. It’s a combination of dance and music that’s been viewed over 1.3 million times.
Riverdance originated in 1994 as an act for the Eurovision Song Contest, which included champion dancers Michael Flatley and Jean Butler. They mixed talents with the Irish musical ensemble, Anúna.
The next year Riverdance was developed into a stage show and the rest is history. According to their website, they’ve performed live for more than 27.5 million people.
One audience was in for a real treat when they attended the dance troupe’s performance.
During the show, there was an act that began with a darkened stage and crashing thunder. Eight male figures could be seen standing in a line and after a few moments, they jumped into action.
The dancers stomped their feet in unison creating the rhythmic sound that many adore. Like mentioned before, Irish dancing is both entertaining to watch and listen to as well.
All of the male dancers moved their feet at lightning speed and kicked their legs in a synchronized fashion. Eventually, an additional performer emerged from backstage dressed in a glittery black costume.
Looking into the crowd, he started clapping his hands which prompted the others to follow. He became their leader in a segment of the act that’s mesmerizing to watch. However, there was still so much more to come…
Celtic Spirit joined the Riverdance team for the performance that had the audience breaking into applause.
The lead male is given a small solo act where he shows off his incredible, fast-paced stepping skills with two drummers in the background. A short time later a beautiful female dancer accompanies him on the stage and together their feet fly during a duet.
But as they say though, the more the merrier.
The act eventually morphs into a mixed group of dancers made up of both males and females that light up the stage with their talents. It’s a high-energy routine that honors the Irish heritage through dancing and music, all in a mystical setting.
At the end of the performance, audience members can be seen rising to their feet for a standing ovation.
Watching Riverdance from your computer screen is one thing, but seeing it in person surely is an experience never to be forgotten. But for those who can’t make it to one of their worldwide shows – luckily, they’re captured on film.

To celebrate Riverdance’s 25th Anniversary of their beginning, they planned a special world tour set to take place in 2020. In addition, they’ve also released the album Riverdance 25th Anniversary: Music From the Show. Back in 1997, the original score by Bill Whelan earned a Grammy-Award.
