Rita Moreno, 89 years old and an Oscar award-winning actress, reveals that she only dated Elvis for one specific reason.
In an interview with The View, the West Side Story actress shared that her relationship of eight years with her ex, Marlon Brando, had been filled with cheating episodes.
She revealed that Brando had been “constantly” cheating on her within that time span.
When co-host Joy Behar asked her about this, she ended up sharing the reason why she eventually dated none other than Elvis Presley during that time.
“I found lingerie in his house and, of course, I was heartbroken, and I went home in tears — really, I was naïve — and I was angry too, just furious. The next day, the phone rings, and I hear ‘Miss Moreno?’ I said, ‘Uh, yeah?’ ” she recalled. ” ‘This is Colonel Parker, my client is Elvis Presley, and Elvis spotted you at the 20th Century Fox commissary, and he liked what he saw.’ “
Rita could not believe what she was hearing, but it was news that came at a good time.
When she heard about it, she immediately thought of the underwear she had found at Brando’s house.
“I said ‘Oh?’ and he said, ‘And he would like very much to meet you. Would you like to meet him?’ ” the star further shared, adding, “And I thought of those panties, and I said, ‘Yes, I would!’ “
Rita candidly shared about her dates with Elvis, describing the King as “sweet but boring.”
“He was sweet, but he was a country boy. So anyway, when [Marlon Brando] found out, it didn’t take long. He started to throw chairs. He was so angry. It was wonderful. And I just sat there as he threw chairs and carried on,” Rita said, crossing her arms and pretending to look at her nails as she mimicked being unfazed by Marlon Brando’s reaction.
Rita met Marlon met at a very young age. She was only 22.
The actors met on the set of the Napoleon biopic Désirée.
They spent eight years together, a relationship she discussed in detail in a documentary called Rita Moreno: Just a Girl Who Decided to Go for It.
Her 8-year relationship with The Godfather star was one that was dark and filled with turbulence.
The documentary was launched at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival earlier that year and was eventually streamed on Netflix.
In the documentary, Rita described her relationship with Marlon Brando.
“He was the daddy that I couldn’t please. I didn’t know that, I wasn’t aware of that at all. But he was the one I wanted to please, he was the one I wanted to be married to.”
Her relationship with the actor even included stories of suicide and abortion.
It was a messy time in her life that she bravely shared in the documentary.
Rita also revealed back in 2017 that Marlon Brando was the “lust” of her life.
She admitted to keeping a photo of the actor in her bedroom.
“Why that picture of Marlon Brando? Because he was a big love of mine in my life,” she shared back then. “This one, it almost seems like a vignette out of a movie, so that’s why it’s there. He was the lust of my life and that over there is the love of my life.”
All of these led to her deciding that dating the King wouldn’t be such a bad idea after all.
