The bond between a father and his son is unlike any other. No matter the physical distance between them, there will always be that connection.
Reuben Gray and his father are incredibly close. They always have been. Even though his dad is gone for nine months out of the year for military service, there is absolutely nothing that could tear these two apart.
Growing up in a military family can be incredibly difficult, but it can also bring everyone together in a strange way. As they say, absence makes the heart grow fonder.
Reuben’s dad isn’t just family, he’s also his son’s biggest fan.
Reuben has been a musician since he was little, and has been writing songs since he was ten years old. His dad has always been there for his performances, that is, if he hasn’t been stationed hours and hours away in another country.
With no idea who exactly is in the audience, this young performer takes to the stage with his father in his heart. He knows that he’s rooting for him from afar, no matter where he is, and that’s enough for him.
But when someone shouts out from the audience, Reuben squints his eyes in the direction of the voice to see that none other than his father is sitting right next to his mom.
The look of shock and joy on this young man’s face is everything. It just melts your heart to see a bond so strong and to share in this moment of happy surprise.
Now, Reuben has even more adrenaline pumping through his body knowing that his number one fan is out there in the audience rooting him on.
As he gets ready to sing an apology song to his girlfriend, he takes a seat at the grand piano center stage. Taking a moment to compose himself before starting, he keeps the judges wondering if his talent will match up to the emotions that have already spilled out onto the stage.
When he starts to sing, there’s no doubt that this is going to be a performance that you’d expect from someone far beyond his years.
At age 16, Reuben has a very mature outlook on love and relationships, and it shows through his lyrics and through the way he sings his songs.

After he gets a response from the judges that every contestant dreams of, he gets a long-overdue reunion with his dad.
The embrace that they share might be the very best part of this whole thing. You can clearly see how happy each one of them is to see the other. The heaping amount of gratitude at this moment is almost overwhelming.
