One of the most wonderful things about the musical world is how a single song can be performed, interpreted, and enjoyed in a lot of different ways.

You can take a sad song and sing it a little differently to make it sound happy, or take a classic from the past and jazz it up with some modern effects to turn it into something totally fresh, all while maintaining the fun and spirit of the original.

Some covers even end up being more popular than the originals, and here’s an absolutely incredible cover of a 90s classic: Wannabe by the Spice Girls.

Every 90s kid can remember the Spice Girls. Formed in 1994, they were one of the most iconic girl groups of all time, featuring the likes of Victoria Beckham, Emma Bunton, and Geri Halliwell, all given their own fun nicknames like Posh Spice, Baby Spice, and Ginger Spice.

The girls gave us some of the best pop anthems of the 90s with songs like Who Do You Think You Are and Viva Forever, but Wannabe, which was actually their debut single, was probably their best ever track.

Selling millions of copies worldwide, it was a smash success for the Spice Girls and has been covered in a wide variety of ways from all kinds of artists, including hard rockers the Foo Fighters, K-pop group Girls’ generation, and California punks Zebrahead.

Now, the wonderful talents of Postmodern Jukebox are giving us their take on the classic pop hit.

Known to fans as PMJ, Postmodern Jukebox is a musical collective, first founded by pianist Scott Bradlee in 2011 and dedicated to taking classic songs and giving them a vintage feel.

Dozens of singers and performers have performed as part of PMJ over the years, and three very talented ladies – Therese Curatolo, Olivia Kuper Harris, and Sara Niemietz – teamed up with backing instrumentalists for this retro take on Wannabe.

With hair styles and makeup that wouldn’t look out of place on a stage from the 1940s, the three ladies turn the fast-moving pop song into a fun, Andrews Sisters-style performance.

Wannabe has never been performed quite like this before!

The three ladies really give it their all, transporting us back in time with their harmonious vocals and joyful smiles, while the jaunty melody in the background really helps to enhance the effect.

It’s clear to see that a lot of hard work went into preparing this amazing performance, and even the trio’s outfits have been specially selected to honor the Spice Girls.

We can see that Therese has her hair in a similar style to Baby Spice, while Olivia is all jazzed up with a Union Jack skirt like Ginger Spice, and Sara has a nice mix of Posh and Scary’s classic looks incorporated into her ensemble.

They look great, they sing beautifully, and the whole show is one that nobody will want to miss. Whether you’re a Spice Girls fan or not, be sure to check out the video down below and enjoy!
