Reggae artist Mike Love teams up with percussionist Sam Ites for this performance of his song “Permanent Holiday” that left people on YouTube stunned.
Mike Love is no stranger to “blowing up,” his record “Jah Will Never Leave You Alone” (released in 2014) circulated worldwide and reached number three on the Reggae Billboard Chart. His long dreadlocks and scruffy beard may give you one impression, but when you hear him sing, you’ll quickly realize there is no “box” you can put Mike Love in when it comes to his musical abilities.
This video from 2013 helped catapult Love into the spotlight and had a big part to play in the success of his record released shortly after.
At the beginning of this performance, Love begins making a baseline by beat-boxing and playing his acoustic guitar on a loop machine at the same time.
When Love gets the baseline down, he begins singing in the most gorgeous voice while Ites starts backing him up on the drums.
With Ites laying down the drums and backup vocals, Love proceeds to go all-in with his vocals, passionately singing the lyrics to his powerful song “Permanent Holiday” with so much grace.
Everything about this performance is extraordinary, from Love’s impressive foot pedal skills, to his brilliant beatboxing and angelic voice, to the way he samples random syllables that eventually turn into full lyrics.
In a recent interview with Metropolis, Love explains how he became a musician:
“My earliest memories are of making music. I’ve been passionate about singing and playing all my life. It’s just something I’ve always done, in envelopes every moment of my existence. When it came time to start thinking about a career, there was nothing else I even considered, it was only ever music that I wanted to do.” Said Love.
Toward the end of the duo’s epic performance, Love lets his voice soar to the next level in a complex flurry of notes.
Throughout the entire 10-minute performance, Love showcases his fantastic vocals by hitting just about every note you can think of.
In one final display of musical expertise, Love closes his eyes and lets his voice take over as Ites lets out a complex drum solo to finish the song.

The captivating live-performance has been viewed over 26.9 million times, with 279,000 that have also liked the video.
