Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel were big stars in the 1960s.

The duo rose to fame because of their mastery of folk-rock. Still, their music lives on and inspires musicians even today. For one example of this, these two bearded men took their chances covering them on a talent show by singing “The Sound of Silence.”

They brought with them a healthy dose of nostalgic from the ’60s, but they also had the audience excited with their unique take on it.

Aryeh and Gil Gat are brothers who were born in Jerusalem.

They joined an Israeli TV show called Rising Star, which airs on Israel’s Channel 2 on Tuesday nights. The objective of the show is to impress the audience with your singing talents, including the judges, who are responsible for giving the votes. Performers need to get at least 70% of the votes in order to pass.

Although the audience and the show are definitely very modern, these two brothers still held their own on stage with an awesome performance.

Though the crowd didn’t know what to expect, by the end of the song, everyone’s mind was blown by just how great the brothers’ performance was!

Even though it was their first time ever performing on TV, the brothers represented themselves and their community perfectly.

Arie Gat even gave an interview about his experience on the show.

He said:

“I’m not a man of lights, flashes, and sparkles. I am ready to stand. I say that in the spiritual sense, with what I have, without external outfits. There is no need for that. And I believe that if it’s good it will sell and if not then not.”

They obviously looked really nervous because of the people and the bright lights around the studio. Both Aryeh and Gil were a bit shaky at first, but they didn’t let it affect their performance. They continued to play the tune and sing the song until they hit that 70% mark they needed to pass to the next round!

When the reached the 70% mark, the entire audience stood up and cheered for them loudly.

All of the judges voted for the brothers, and in the end, they got a total of 89% of the votes.

They accomplished all this by starting as buskers in the streets of Jerusalem—how cool is that?

Aryeh learned how to strum the guitar, and then became a skilled drummer.

On the other hand, Gil had been playing gigs at jazz clubs and blues bars in New York for some time.

Before becoming famous, these brothers entertained all kinds of people in the city with their music.

There are videos of them circulating YouTube when they performed songs like Pink Floyd’s “Wish You Were Here” and Eric Clapton’s “Tears in Heaven.”

They remain humble and down to earth after being tagged as famous.

The Gat brothers are now busy touring and performing in different parts of the world. Though their heads are held high, their feet are still down on the ground and they remain humble as ever.
