Singing in a choir can be a great experience.

You don’t have to worry about singing badly at all since everyone else is singing with you, and you can focus just on the part you have to perform.

Aside from the fun of singing, being in a big choir can also give you a great feeling of belongingness as well.

That’s why this video of 1,500 people getting together to sing Backstreet Boys is so heartwarming!

Pub Choir is undeniable proof that everybody can sing.

Pub Choir is a large musical event that was first founded by Astrid Jorgensen and Megan Bartholomew in Brisbane, Australia in 2017. In these events, a group of hundreds or nearly thousands sings a song in three-part harmony. Jorgensen works hard to teach a large crowd their respective vocal parts in the musical arrangement.

Waveney Yasso from West Australia serves as one of their members and the choir’s official guitarist.

A large crowd of more than a thousand attended the Pub Choir event in Brisbane, Australia last February 4, 2019.

The song that they performed was the infamous Backstreet Boys’ hit, “I Want It That Way.” Jorgensen divided the crowd into three, assigning each group their roles in the choir.

The first group consisted mostly of men and some women who have deep voices to sing the melody part. The second group was filled with baritone men and mezzo-soprano women which are tasked to harmonize. The last group consisted of people with the highest vocal register to sing the melody part in a higher octave while harmonizing with vocal blends in some parts of the song.

Yasso strummed her guitar in front of the crowd while Jorgensen conducted the enormous choir.

Despite most of them attending the events as mere strangers, they still sing their hearts out and enjoy the entirety of the show.

The four-minute clip was uploaded on YouTube, reaching 2.1 million views after a year. It is amazing to see people share their voices in this wonderful vocal orchestra.

Participants purchase event tickets to be able to attend these shows.

Afterward, participants can freely sing to their hearts’ content with Jorgensen acting as the show’s musical conductor, and the rest of the group providing the instrumental accompaniment.

Like any musical groups out there, Pub Choir started small.

They would upload small stage performances from their shows in Australia until they became popular. They were able to expand their scope of where they hold their events after they got worldwide attention with their rendition of The Cranberries’ song, “Zombie.” The group had shows in New Zealand, England, the United States, and they have been honored to perform at international stages even until now.

This is definitely a tradition we could get behind!

The boy band became popular during the ’90s but until now, their classic hits like “Quit Playing Games (With My Heart),” “As Long As You Love Me,” and “I Want It That Way” are still being played on the radio. In any event, we definitely think that they did it justice!
