This is Michael Rice, a 22 year old singer songwriter from the U.K.
Michael started out as a busker, but a video of him singing went viral resulting in an invitation to audition for a new BBC singing show called ‘All Together Now’.
He went on to become the first ever winner of the TV show, giving him the opportunity to represent the UK at Eurovision, the world’s biggest songwriting contest.
They average 200 million viewers.
Rice’s song ‘Bigger Than Us’ hit the charts in Sweden, Denmark, landed him his first UK Top 10 single.
Since then, Michael has been travelling to different countries like Sweden, The Netherlands, and Switzerland, all while working with a great team team of producers and songwriters.
He is a very talented young man.
If you’ve ever watched shows like “America’s Got Talent” or “The Voice”, then you know how difficult it is for aspiring singers to put a memorable spin on a classic.
There have been a lot of hit and miss covers over the many seasons of those shows.
“Proud Mary” is a song made famous by Tina Turner and her killer dance moves just have to go along with it so anyone covering the song has to do the same.
Now watch the “All Together Now” judges become so impressed when Michael Rice made the brave choice to sing the classic.
Rice stood nervously in front of the 100 judges, telling them that he was about to sing one of his “favorite songs.”
None of them knew what it was but the moment Rice began to sing, they were hooked!
Those many faces up there go from shock and disbelief to just awe and excitement.
Michael is a talented young man!
He sticks to his style while staying faithful to Turner’s arrangements and he somehow manages to pay tribute to her style while making the song completely his own.
This is how you audition!
And to think the former busker hadn’t even reached the famous “rollin'” portion yet.
As soon as he does, those judges stand up by groups, dancing and singing along with Michael.
Michael Rice just needed a score of 81 to move on in the competition.
But by the time he finishes, all 100 judges are on their feet to celebrate this talented young man and his perfect score.
In fact he is so good, even his fellow contestants had to applaud him.
Rice was done singing but the judges started singing the song to him again, and he was visibly emotional.
Even a viewer noticed it,
“This was so sweet. I really loved how thrilled everyone was when they saw the score and then they all sang back at him. Oh my god I would actually cry, that was so lovely.”
Rice is an amazing singer and he has the stage presence to back it up.
That’s a perfect 100 alright!
