Remember the running man dance? It was so popular that, way back in 2016, #RunningManChallenge became a trending hashtag on social media sites, and pretty much everyone got involved.

Though, like many challenges, running man is rarely discussed today, it’s worth bringing back this hilarious challenge if not just to watch some of the most talented individuals having a go at the quirky dance.

Of all the videos out there, the one featuring a group of police officers is in our top 10 for this challenge.

The thing about running man is that it’s actually really difficult. It might look like comedy gold to the viewer, but you have to have some level of dance skill – or at least incredible coordination – to pull it off.

It’s hardly surprising that police departments joined in on the running man fun – we all know that cops are the first to jump on any trend nowadays.

They had plenty of competition, but the New Zealand police definitely came out on top.

As the video begins, we’re looking at an empty parking garage. Next minute, a police car pulls into view, and two officers get out of the car and pretend to go investigate a wallet on the ground.

It’s a bit of a random start, and when “My Boo” by the Ghost Town DJs starts to play, the video suddenly makes a lot more sense.

Radiating cool vibes to the max, one of the officers flips his hat under his arm and the officers launch into the running man.

Seconds later, more cops join them in the shot – and their running man game is strong.

Fair enough, the two original officers are clearly the best dancers, but it’s just as funny to watch the officers who can’t do it giving it their best shot.

Some of the officers are pulling the most hilarious faces, and it’s obvious nobody is taking themselves too seriously.

With plenty of feet-shuffling and arm-pumping, the New Zealand police have won us over already.

But it’s not over yet!

Just when we think we’ve seen it all, the superior officer appears from nowhere and takes center-stage, pushing a few of the cops aside for his starring moment.

The cops clear out pretty quickly, leaving their boss to strut his stuff all alone. And we’re in for a huge surprise, as it turns out he’s the best dancer of the lot!

Who said that senior police officers sat around eating donuts all day?

This guy has clearly been practicing hard. His legs are moving like they’re independent from his body, and he’s spinning and snapping his arms as he spins in a circle.

Something tells us that he’d been dying to show off his running man moves, and it was his idea to participate in the challenge in the first place…

After giving everything he’s got, the superior officer switches into “normal cop” mode in a blink of an eye, pulling a ticket book out of his pocket and walking off with his head down, back to being serious.

The video was a deserved viral sensation, with more than 1.3 million views on YouTube.

Fans of the New Zealand police commented beneath the video to share what they thought about their moves. One person comically wrote about the superior officer:

“Danced so hard he had to give himself a ticket.”

If you haven’t seen it yet, prepare to bring a bit of old school back into your life with this video of the New Zealand police officers doing the running man challenge.
